Hi Mmah171, When I said 'domestic help' I meant that the life is less strenuous in India. Once you reach home, you know that the daily chores would be taken care of. By no means do I ever talk down to my maids and I strongly abhor any bad treatment to any of your workers. Yes they are paid less bu...t the same happens in your office where your CEO takes 10 times of what you take. So it all depends on what you do for living. Obviously a professor and a road side labourer would never get the same salary. No finger of your hand is ever the same. Why the domestic helps are so expensive abroad because there is shortage of people. That is where India scores. I have also read your 'sexual harrassment' thing. I sympathise with you. Such people should be 'catastrated' really. But don't assume you would not see this abroad. I am a witness to such things in Australia. An appropriate thing would have been to report the matter to the National commission for women or just call women's helpline. The do act and fast. Best of luck for future. You seem to be an emotional and sensitive person and trust me, India is the right place for you. The rest is your decision. Cheers VTRead More

Dear friends, Read my review 'India all the way' in this forum. I wrote it in Oct 2008. I actually returned to India in Jan 2009. Initially I felt the dust, grime, heat and crowds. But slowly I started enjoying here. Now I have a good senior job and very convenient lifestyle, close to parents and r...elatives and a lot more saving even in this recession. As India would enter 'Boom' again from 2010 onwards, India is the place to be. Don't spoil your kids. You will regret when you grow old. They would speak in a Canadian accent and you wouldn't feel you are talking to your own child. As far as education is concerned, Indian edcuation is second to none with plenty of opportunities owning to large and growing economy. ( India is the third largest economy after U.S and China). You are the King at Home and King at work place. ( I don't want to talk about racism )Read More

Please read my Review 'India all the way'. I wrote it when I was about to leave Australia for India. Now, after 6 months, I conclude that I made the right decision. See, its like this that 'Grass is always greener on the other side'. When abroad, you look at the negatives of living abroad and when i...n India you again look at the negatives of living in India. The human being is very 'selfish' and never satisfied. If you have a good job, own house, family and friends in India then there is no point in moving abroad. I wouldn't like my children to speak in US accent to me when they grow up. I wouldn't feel that they are my own children. When abroad, you would always feel empty inside. We have to get out of the 'slave' mentality that 'whites' are superior. Believe me they are not. After coming back to India I have got a much superior job with more authoritiy and job satisfaction. In this era of globalisation, I have already travelled abroad after coming here and would keep travelling very often. Then, you talk to international consultants all the time at an equal level. Had I stayed in Australia, I would still be working in a subservient position and my confidence would have been killed for sure. What's the point? Thank you very much. I don't want to 'screw' my life for clean roads and white skin show. I am happy with my family and friends here. I would go abroad but as a business traveller or as a tourist, when I can deal with these 'whites' at an equal footing. The days of slavery are gone. India is on the move and we are proud of it. I am glad that all the work that I am doing is in India and I am proudly a part of India's growth story. Jai HindRead More

5 things... contd. These things are not very difficult to achieve. But if all of us do it , that will make a huge difference to this country. We all know that India is no longer a 'third world' country. It is among the six most forward developing countries in the world called the NIC countries ( New...ly Industrialised countries - India, China, South Africa,Brazil, Mexico). A little push and we would soon ( in the next 10 years or so) be a DEVELOPED COUNTRY. I am residing in Australia and coming back to India for good. There is nothing 'extra ordinary' about the so called developed countries. These countries also have similar problems like India. The only difference is that the people here do the above mentioned 5 things. If you ask the NRI's settled here, they start bad mouthing India on account of the above 5 things. What the heck? Let us do it to silence these non reliable Indians who have fled their country rather than try to improve it. I am very bullish for India... May our country grow and silence the entire world. Let us resolve that no amount of distrubances from our neighbours would stop us from becoming a superpower. Neighbour's envy... owners' pride !!! stRead More

5 Things... would make all the difference. You are right, we all can contribute to the progress of our country. Inspite of the poor leadership we have, still there is alot we can do. Here are a few things we can do: 1. Do our work/profession honestly. It would not only be good for our career bu...t also for our country. We all should research in our fields and try to excel in whatever we do. Try to be 'the best', the expert. 2. Civil courtseys: We must respect the law and have civil courtseys. We must respect traffic rules,( don't jump the redlight, drive in your lane, do not honk unnecessarily, do not do drunk driving and stay in your speed limits), we must learn to be polite with strangers - say Hi , how are you, it wouldn't hurt anyone and you would feel how good your life has become. 3. Care for the environment: Do your car pollution check, do not use polythene bags, harvest rainwater ( www.rainwaterharvesting.org) in your homes, use CFL lights, do not waste electricity or water ( use a mug of water for shave instead of letting it flow), try to use public transport as much as possible or do carpooling, covert your car to CNG, buy a solar cooker and try to use it whenever possible, do not burn leaves - bury them, try to plant a few trees if you can or adopt a small tree and water it to help it grow, grow vegetables in your backyard if you can, do not litter the streets PLEASE. 4. Pay your taxes. Take bill for everything you buy. It would bring more revenue for the government. 5. Take care of your health: If all of us are healthy, our nation is healthy. Baba Ramdev has done a terrific job in popularising Yog. Adopt Yog as part of your daily routine. Listen to good music and try to sing.... its very healthy. These things are not very difficult to achieve. But if all of us do it , that will make a huge difference to this country. We all know that India is no longer a 'third world' country. Why so ideal?

Dec 16, 2008 09:37 AM

The country is angry. India must extract as much information as possible out of him. We have to go to their masters. Kasab is just a pawn in the whole scheme of things. Use Kasab and kill him after reaching his masters. I agree with you Kirti that the whole world knows what he has done but you ...have to go through a 'legal' process. This time he won't be spared like Afzal Guru. If this govt. doesn't kill him before elections, this govt. is going to fall for sure. Did you read how our govt. ignored the Jews in their UN speech? I think the govt. is wrong in judging the mood of the people. Their 'vote bank' policy is going to backfire on them as Now even Muslims do not have any sympathy with these Pakistani terrorists. We must realise that this event was a turning point in our communal cauldron. This is the first time when Muslims across the country have come out so strongly against Pakistan who claims to be the saviour of the Muslims. Its another matter that Muslims keep fighting with each other in their torn lawless so called 'country'. It is the post 26/11 time dear politicians! The country is angry. So better fall in line or face the music. The sooner our govt. realise this, it is better for them or 'get out' in the coming elections!Read More

Say no to War.

Dec 05, 2008 12:32 PM

Breaking point? If we go to war, the terrorists would have achieved their purpose. We have to kill the terrorists and not the entire nation. A wide spread destruction and a possible nuclear conflict has to be avoided at all costs. So what do we do? We can't take it lying down also. Hence the economi...c offensive. Instead of reaching a breaking point ourselves... break the hell out of them. As you all know, Pakistan's economy is in total mess. Till they got financial aid from the world bank recently, they were on the brink of being declared bankrupt! They had just 6 days to last ! We must take advantage of their economic plight and block their economic growth as I have list out in my review above. They will all fall in line. We have got to accept the weakness of the present government. What has the govt. done to prevent terrorist attacks? If the govt. is clueless let me tell them my wishlist: 1. Millions of Bangladeshis are roaming freely as they constitute the Congress vote bank. They should immediately be deporte...d back as they are threat to our security. 2. There are about 125 hard core terrorists filling our jails. Why? Why don't you kill them so that nobody can blackmail you for their release. Do it now. This is the right time. Dear Sonia, you would not get any additional votes by not killing Afzal Guru but if you hang him you would win appreciation from millions of patriots including Indian Muslims. Please get it straight. 3. This is the right time to curb the militancy in Kashmir. Strike it when the iron is hot. Arrest all the separatists and try them for treason. Now !!! 4. Give Pakistan a fixed time frame, an ultimatum to handover the 2000 odd terrorists being trained in their training camps. I think one week's time is sufficient. If they do not comply, wage a war ! Not the conventional war.... but an economic war. Stop all transactions with them. Divert the river water. Block the Karachi Harbour. Believe me, Pakistan is on edge, very poor and on the brink of bankruptcy. This will affect them the most. Use all your resources to block any international assistance to them. A conventional war will not help and can escalate into a nuclear conflict and can impede our economic growth story. I am sure Obama would stop the world bank from giving any loan to them. Kill them economically. 5. Isolate Pakistan on international forum. Make a block of countries who would not help or have any transation with Pakistan. The block would include India, U.S, Canada, Australia, U.K and Israel. I would take the opportunity to applaud the Indian Muslims in condemning the attack and not allowing the burial of these terrorists on Indian soil. We have to stand united to Read More

Can you name a few good hotels where you can get peace, tranquility, good food and large rooms with views for under Rs 1000 per day? If you book from Delhi, the rates are very high ( 2000 - 2500 per day) as a lot of it goes into commissions!

Well, Sridevi is an okay actress and her performance in 'Sadma' was good. But she is mostly remembered for that 'main nagin' song and her 'theatricals' with Jitendra. Can you put her in the top five or even top ten with the likes of Rekha and Shabana? And there are other actresses with better merit ...like Nutan,Nargis,Mumtaz, Sadhna and more recently Kajol who would deserve a better position over Sridevi. And yes, I would strongly defend 'Madhuri' as an unquestioned queen of bollywood for at least 5 years (1990 -1995). Can you forget her role in 'Anjaam' and 'Mrityudand' which earned her critical acclaim. She has won 4 filmfare awards ( including 'Beta') and 'Padmshri'from the president of India and 'IFLA' award at Los Angeles apart from many 'Screen', 'Zee' and other numerous awards and honours. I am sure she would come back like Amitabh with very profound 'Character' roles in years to come.Read More

When you look at the 5 best actresses, you have to see the entire history of Indian cinema and give it a serious thought before arriving at any rating. The quality of an actress is in her ability to captivate the audience so much so that people go to movies to see her acting ( not her assets). Th...ere have been many great actresses and I would give the 10 best actresses instead of five as there have been too many talented actresses who should not be ignored. No. 10: Aishwarya ( for Jodha Akbar, Guru, Shabd) No. 9 : Rani Mukherjee ( for Black,Bunti Babli, Laga Chunari mien daag) No. 8: Urmila ( for Bhoot, Pinjar, Rangeela) No. 7: Smita Patil ( for Manthan, Mirch masala, Arth) No. 6: Waheeda Rehman ( for Pyasa, Guide,Kagaz ke phool) No. 5: Madhubala ( for Mughle Azam, Chalti ka naam...) No. 4: Meena Kumari ( for Sahib bibi aur ghulam, Pakeezah, dil ek mandir) No. 3: Madhuri Dixit ( for Hum aapke hain kaun, tezaab, Beta, Devdas) No. 2: Shabana Azmi ( for Masoom, Arth,Junoon,Mandi) No. 1: Rekha ( for Khoobsurat, Silsila,Ghar,Ijaazat, Umrao Jaan, Khoon bhari maang) With regards to most beautiful actresses, there were many but Madhubala, Saira Bano,Sadhna,Kajol, Aishwarya and Katrina are exceptionally beautiful. And finally the hottest actresses: Bindu ( of yester years), Namitha (south indian actress), Sameera Reddy, Shilpa Shetty,Bipasha Basu are a few names that come to mind straightaway. What Women Want?

Nov 18, 2008 01:02 PM

Emotions.... Seriously trying to answer it, I would say women in general want excitment from life. Emotions, drama, tragedy, adventure ... anything but dullness. All praise and no fun would not take you anywhere with women ( exceptions are there ).Women also need a feeling of security and belonging. ...They tend to think from heart than brain and believe it or not they are mostly right. Infact men can learn from them on this count. But on the negative side, whatever a man may do to please her, she would always find a fault somewhere. Men adapt fast ... women can learn from men here. May the battle of sexes go on... dear women are you reading... any response?Read More

Living abroad makes you disoriented. You stop believing in yourself. You don't know whether to support India or where you are living. Its the identity crisis that takes the pleasure out of life. When you talk to your kids you don't feel the closeness as they would talk in their accent and their joke...s would go over your head. That is when you would feel what cultural difference can do to you. Your whole world comes crashing down when your daughter would go out to sleep with another boy and would call it normal. You should live where your heart is. The objective of life should be to feel happy and peaceful inside. ( Do not confuse with outside peace of the west). The confidence and feeling of being at home is unmatched. After living abroad for a while, I feel that all those problems that we face in India and try to run away from ( by migrating abroad) resurface in other forms. As Ghalib had once said: ' Humko maalum hai jannat ki hakikat lekin, dil ko khush rakhne ko Ghalib yeh khayal accha hai'. Heaven or hell is in our mind, in our attitude. If you think India is a hell and foreign land is heaven then that is the biggest mistake you can ever make.Read More
