22nd August 2005 7:30 a.m. Delhi! It was a comfortable ride from Manali to Delhi and I slept most of the way. Except for when we halted for dinner at Bilaspur. We were supposed to catch the 4:00 p.m Rajdhani Express to Mumbai. So in the mean time we decided to make good of what ever time we had on o...ur hands. There is one thing I absolutely love about Delhi, all the chaats that you get here! Some of us went on an eating spree and tried out every possible chaat combination there was to try. We even had some of them delicious kebabs. We got into the train at 4:00 saying adios to Delhi. 23rd August 2005 8:30 a.m. Rajdhani was on time as usual. And as we reached Mumbai at 8:30 in the morning, it marked the end of a journey to there and back!Read More

Our happiness, though, was short lived. Just a few kilometers ahead of Rohtang, we hit a traffic jam. See now the jams here in Mumbai are very different. But out there in the mountains if 2-3 vehicles are stuck means they are really stuck! Plus the attitude of the truck drivers and the tempo drivers... and the bus drivers was like that would put the royal family to shame. It seems they have never heard the word co-operation. The police was also of no help and they were in an attempt of freeing their own truck instead of clearing the jam. Finally we took it onto us to do something. A bunch of us got down and started to give straight orders to the truck drivers to move the vehicles. After a couple of reluctant minutes, they obeyed. Of course we had to tell them in the language they understand. After about 3 hours of shouting and waiting and adjusting, we got out of the mess and headed towards Manali. Due to this entire ruckus we touched Manali only at 10:00 p.m. 21st August 2005 9:00 a.m. I must have slept like a log the night before, cause my room mates heard the saw millJ. Ok bad joke! We had some time on our hands in Manali and our bus didn't leave till 4:30 p.m. So what do we do with all the spare time? Of course shopping. This time around we decided to go to a part of town called the Old Manali. It seems it's a hot spot for all the tourists, specially foreigners. It sure is. We were the only Indians there. I could see why it was a hot spot. It has lovely little shops selling wonderful stuff ranging from clothes, bags, jackets, souvenirs to music cds and bikes too. Although my bags were overflowing and I had sworn not to buy a single thing more, I did buy a few things, the temptation was too strong for me to resist. Finally it was time for us to bid goodbye to Manali. We all boarded our luxury bus and 4:30 p.m. and headed back towards our nation's capital.Read More

With heavy hearts and heavy bags, we said our final goodbyes to Leh at 1:30 p.m. We were traveling back to Manali. The melancholy was slowly setting in and all was us were a bit sadden to leave that place. But with the sadness, there was also a kind of satisfaction of being able to visit such a magi...cal place and a promise to be back again. I almost felt like Frodo Baggins when he starts his journey back to Shire after having endured all the adventures. Also like Frodo, our journey was but far from over. We decided to push it further till we can and cover as much of distance as possible in that day. Our journey was marked with everybody trying to recall what they were doing at that exact place while coming. We did cover a great distance that day and only stopped at Sarchu at 10:00 p.m. in the night. We decided to spend the night here. The plateau hosts a lot of camping sites owned by tour companies. We made our humble tents near one such camp. The night was almost magical, with full moon and all and the strong wind blowing. At first it was quite difficult even to hold down the tents in place. Finally we got everything in order, had our dinner of maggi and went off to sleep. 20th August 2005 6:00 a.m. After a fitful and cold sleep last night, we all reluctantly got up to go. It turned out better for us. The warmth of the bus after the bone-chilling cold of the open was a welcome change. We were making good progress in terms of speed now. We hoped to reach Manali early so that we could get some well deserved rest and maybe a hot bath, Ah! Almost heaven! We were leaving places behind pretty fast, Bharatpur, Darcha, Koksar. All seem to go by in a flash. And before long it was 4:30 p.m. and we were at Rohtang Pass. Manali was just couple of hours from here, which was great news and we were really happy.Read More

Nice review ... and you did cover quite a bit about the cam.. Even i tried this one but i decided to settle for Sony DSCP70, 4 MP, 3x Optical. One feature I find lacking in Nikon Digitals (not D SLR's) is that they dont give much of shutter speed control which Sony gives. Me too am an amateur... photographer and like to experiment on shutter speed and appurture size .. and better to do it on digicam then on costly roll ones :) and even i noticed the other problem you mentioned about all digicams .. the delayed responce .. Actually the delay is caused when u use the LCD screen to click images ... If you want to get around the delay in any situation I suggest you use the view finder to click photos .. it helps in reducing the delay quite a bit.... Peace PareshRead More

Wonderful review. I would love to read this book. I recently bought a book named 'Hitler and Stalin: Parallel lives' but didnt get the time to start on it yet. Maybe it will interest you. I was more interested in Stalin though. Your review is very well written and very useful, but maybe you could... just do some aesthetic changes, put it in paragraphs or something. Once again. Good Review Peace PareshRead More

Well written review man .. but still think its i bit 'Mills&Boon'ish sort of stuff. and full of cliche's. I mean, the stuff you quoted sounds good in a movie said by some goody two shoes actor ... but i dont know their significance in real life. Any ways ... your perception ... as u put it ... I ...appreciate your sincere efforts though Peace PareshRead More
