At the book store I could not help noticing Lord Shiva peering at me through a pair of ladies dark glasses from the cover of a book on the shelves. Out of curiosity I read a few pages at random from Sarah Mc Donald's Indian Adventure. It was poignant and funny at the same time. I could not resist buying the book and reading it all in one sitting.I haven't enjoyed a book more in recent times.
If you have an interest in religion; all relgions, then this is the book to read. Mc Donald's takes a look at all the major religions practiced in India from different angles. She actually visits the Ashrams, Monestries etc. to get a first hand feel on what is on offer. She is blunt in her assessment, funny at times, and yet is able to derive some benefit from her experience. If the King has no clothes (Figuratively Ofcourse!) she says so irrespective of the devine status of the guru. Ditto for her own religion.
A very honest book written with the best of intentions.
