Ipsi :)) Glad to see you here, as always with a nice comment. I am a Big B fan as well, and I used to be a Rajesh Khanna fan but only for some of his initial roles. Certainly his long haired phase contributed to his loosing the SuperStar status. And, Kishore Kumar was absolutely the best. My movi...e watching is also down of late, although did see 'Julie & Julia'; like it a lot. I also tried to see 'La Dolce Vita'; but Netflix's CD was damaged. Grrr!!! Thanks again Samir Read More

The 1970's were a unique era in Bollywood, one that saw the first SuperStar, as well as the first dethroning of the reigning SuperStar with a "angry young man". Hindi films & stars, especially male, threw of the yoke of Hollywood with original styles. Some may charitably label them as somewhat u...Read more

Hi Ipsi:)) I too hate the hot weather; hopefully we get a break soon. Thanks for all the Marcello film suggestions; I had of course heard of 'La Dolce Vita'. I will try and see this & the others as well. Isn't is interesting, Chiara being the daughter of Marcello & Catherine Deneuve, and Catheri...ne plays her mother in the movie. A lot of Iranians were forced to leave, as you say, during the revolution; one of them has a nice restaurant by the same name 'Persepolis' on the Upper East Side. A favorite of our family's, and of course the Irani restaurants in Bombay & Poona were nice too. Thanks again SamirRead More

Hi Ipsi :)) Nice to hear from you with a wonderfully detailed comment. I have yet to see some of those Italian Marcello M movies, but I will try and see some. As usual you have something unique to add; the comparison with Italian fascist is most apt. This movie did strike some tiny personal chord...s within me, I was in Tehran in 1978, just prior to the anti-Shah revolution. I did not see much of it, but my father saw almost all of it. Thanks for a really wonderful response. SamirRead More

Growing up with a grandmother who lets you in on her female anatomy maintenance secrets, at most is eyebrow raising material. Add to that a home in an exclusive suburb with a view of year-round snow capped mountains, in a country that is probably the worlds largest producer of caviar, saffron, p...Read more

Sonia :) Since you wrote so passionately about this gentleman; I did listen to some of his songs, was my first time. I did not form any opinion of him, and so my turn to ask now --- 'What wine will you pair him with ?' What little I heard, I could not determine. Samir

Rohit: A nice, crisp, to the point review; will surely read this book. Can certainly relate to some of the, what from the review sound like, matter-of-fact, no-nonsense style; certainly a characteristic of Mumbai (& New York) living. Thanks for a wonderful review, and now I am on the hunt for thi...s one. SamirRead More

Sonia :) So I will skip this one; Val's review also said the same. Do not have anything 'profound' to say on this review; and I did remember your earlier book review; I mistakenly remembered its as a film review. You wrote about the book, and I saw the film. Anyway, I did order the 'The Book Thi...ef'; looking forward to reading it. SamirRead More

Val : I was there too, and my wife as well; and your description is apt. Overwhelming feelings of helplessness & shock seemed to abound. Based on your review, I will probably skip this movie. Thanks for the same though. Samir

Sonia :) It is easier for me to see a movie you have reviewed, before commenting; but I did order this book. Sounds like a good read, and your excellent review helps as well. My lucky day, I get two book reviews today; fortunately with Amazon being handy I could order them both. Re: your review, t...he introduction is an apt piece; the synopsis and the conclusions are well written. This is probably your first book review that I am reading; hope to see more. Samir Read More

Hi Monica :) Nice to see a review from you, and one on a book as well. Really interesting review, loved reading it; and was reminded of the movie 'Under The Tuscan Sun'. Dont know whether you have seen it, but it is about a divorced American women (starring Diane Lane) who goes on vacation to Tusca...ny and impulsively buys a villa there. Plenty of home repair, Italian Food, Italian men; and finding yourself. Will try and read this one, keep them coming. SamirRead More

Val : I meant to see this movie, and finally your review made me see it. Wonderful review & movie; and you have revealed just the right amount. On a personal note, I have been to Northern Iran; and it is very pretty over there. However, I have to admit that this movie makes it even prettier. Keep... reviewing such off-the-beaten-path movies.
