hi sidz, thanks. ya i sound like am really promoting this film :) i think it stems from the fact that i think a lot of people wont get the fact that the film is actually a spoof, though a good-natured one, on bollywood. thanks again, ciao

For once, I completely agree with Nikhat Kazmi –the movie critic of the Times of India. This film is seriously good, definitely not meant for fans of serious cinema and totally satisfying for those who enjoy the “silly” factor of bollywood. I was lucky to have watch...Read more

PS: the cast performance is rated 5 for the incredible hamming by all the lead actors.

This is why I love the johar chopra itsallaboutlovingyourfamily brigade. Their ability to completely distort relations till you have no clue what being real means. Honestly, watching a skilled contortionist wouldn’t be half as thrilling. For those of you who have seen stepmom and cried, you can ...Read more

hi - saw the film a while ago. i liked it but honestly could not wrap my head around the father-son relationship - in general i have lots of opinions on being a permissive parent. i would rather the pushy parenting of indians not that i condone it but i see it as infinitely better to the barely ther...e parenting shown in worlds greatest dad. But yes i sympathised with robin williams immensely (mostly for having such an idiot of a son) - and robins performance like you say is indeed oscar worthy. he does portray vulnerability like no one else can. Havent seen crazy heart. Saw up in the air and absolutely loved it.Read More

true, it is the emotion that stands out in a good, memorable scene. - have loved all those scenes you mentioned too. Havent thought of my own favourites but there are so many from bollywoood really that we still discuss. I was thinking yesterday of Juhi in QSQT and her portrayal of an innocent girl ...- she ws so utterly credible, and there was this scene where she and aamir are spending a night in the forest andwhile he is wary, she trusts him completely. very sweet young love scene.Read More

hi i was sort of enjoying the film but when the film wrapped up, i suddenly felt like - 'what was that?' it did not register - this film. Like you say, i liked the references to cinema, the desert panorama, satish kaushik! and all that but somehow, it all added up to a disappointment - it was like t...hose little things were likeable as parts but did not make sense as a whole.Read More

how absurd is it to say that u want to see a 'normal' character? the whole strength of this film came from the fact that we got an insight into the lives of those who are different from most of us. really liked your insight on the film

small things that added up - there was something forced like an exhortation to feel a certain way (melodramatic). awful background music and the obama look-alike......stuff like that lost the flow of the film

this is one of those films i dont want to criticise - it is so well-intentioned! it just did not work for me.

see now tha's the sort of review we want to read. keep writing :) Dev D is so deserving of all the praise heaped on it - definitely one of my favourite films. Abhay Deol has this amazing self-deprecatory charm - noone does it the way he can. And like you said Mahi Gill's portrayal of paro redefine...s 'heroine'. the casting was amazing. kashyap married kalki later but was apparently unsure about castin her. he had to be convinced by the person responsible for casting!Kashyaps sensibilities towards women are so refreshing. i loved the scene where paro cycles back with the mattress - i just felt she was the most genuine character i had come across. and kalki complaining to dev that she wished her dad had told her dont worry its going to be okay instead of offing himself - then hugging dev happily when he says that to her. kashyap is too good. when i saw gulaal i thought the man should get a padma bhushan at least. that film is among my faves too.Read More

hmm.....a little more explaining in terms of why she went to these extremes.....ya i guess that would have helped. though like i said, her motives seemed clear to me.
