Hi Fenil A wonderful review there. You've read my review so you know how I feel about it as this is a subject that is very very important to me. I honestly felt that Kabir could have done better, (I had liked Kabul Express more) and here, though the movie was technically superb, there were a quit...e a few things that the script just kinda let loose. But yes, compared to average Bollywood flicks this film was better. I felt Kabir has only presented this film from an immigrant's perspective, and ignored some important aspects of the American perspective. Also, I didn't expect a director like Kabir to imitate scenes from Hollywood flicks frame by frame :( Also, John did not sound at all like someone who is bred in US, on the contrary, Katrina's accent seemed a lot more natural for this film. Once again, a wonderful review! VRead More

Hi Anurag Another neatly penned review there. I have seen this film recently and penned a review as well. Overall, my main complaint was that it presented only one side (an immigrant's perspective), though compared to average Bollywood flick it was better. I had really liked Kabul Express, but co...mpared to that Kabir was disappointing here. Further, I was just annoyed at the way several scenes are just lifted out of some of my favorite Hollywood flicks :( VRead More

Hi Preetishi I agree, me too was very disappointed with this flick in many ways! Good review there. Technical aspects were impressive, script, and everything else were mediocre :( V

Hi Saj, Sorry to be late. But, (a) I didnot want to read reviews before watching the film, and (b) Since yesterday, MS pages are just not loading for me..I mean it is either too slow, or not working at all for me. Dunno if you are having the same problem :( Buddy, your review as usual is very w...ell written! Overall, it appears that you quite liked the film. You've seen my review, so you know how I feel about this subject and execution of the film. I feel Kabir Khan's 'Kabul Express' was a lot better. I had no idea about the pre-release hype by Indian media. What the hell, how could they even make a big deal about those scenes. I mean what is there to talk about, in such scenes in a movie??? It goes with the character and it is a part of a movie. What is there to talk about it.?? If Indian media has been talking about such trivial things, it is really ridiculous. I mean I understand if it is a film like 'Eyes Wide Shut', but for films like this...oh boy! Really they need to take a crash course in Journalism first! Sorry, buddy...just got irritated to read about the insanity of the media. They should certainly focus on something more constructive lol!! OK back to the film - Here's why I didn't like it much. I felt Kabir gave 'ONE' perspective from an immigrant's point of view, and completely diluted many important factors. John's character required multi-layered writing, it was written too simplistically. I feel a film maker should make a neutral film, and let the audience decide. Here, he has preached.... OK me will stop blabbering now....Good to talk to you! Best VRead More

Hi Vineet :) I don't know whether its my server here or its MS, but I have literally been unable to go to any of the web-pages related to MS or its been taking forever to load :( Finally am here after several attempts. That was a lovely account of how to get started on playing the guitar. Thats ...been one of the many things that I would love to do sometime. At present me just appreciate the wonderful notes and sounds of this beautiful instrument and the talent of the player...Wish you all the best buddy! Also, liked your choice of introduction of Johnny Depp's words. Very appropriate! VRead More

Hi Vineet, Thanks for returning and for your value added comment. I guess I was comparing John in those scenes with Omar Metwally, who was simply brilliant in 'Rendition'. Buddy, do watch 'Rendition' if you get a chance. That was a brilliant film on the torture issue and stuck to the point. It di...d not digress, like this film. I agree with you that for Bollywood, this was a good attempt to showcase something different compared to the usual. I completely agree with you that the technical aspects and cinematography were very good. Me too gave it 5 stars for that. I whole heartedly agree with you that the film could not make the audience feel for the characters. I honestly walked out of the theater, feeling empty and disappointed. Overall, its worth a watch, but certainly could have been a LOT better! What really made me upset was the dialogs at the end, when Irfan tells Neil that those times were different, and people made bad decisions and things should be forgotten......It just does not happen that way, certain things just can't be :( Also, Kabir just presented the film from an immigrant's perspective about all the injustice that has been done....while showing that his main character, just simply walks out of the horror that unfolded that day, didn't care about what happened to the country, kept complaining that things were not fair..... The script should have been written better. Thanks again buddy for your visit! VRead More

Hi Paul :) As promised I am back after watching this film. Brother (if I may call you so), I was kinda disappointed overall. May be I was expecting too much. But honestly, so many things were just completely overlooked. You know as film maker, if you want to make a political statement, one sh...ould show all sides and leave it to the audience to decide. But I felt Kabir showed one aspect from his point of view and was preaching! John's character was nothing like someone who's raised here. Katrina atleast sounded like someone raised here. Only Neil and Irfan were the saving grace of the film. But still overall, I guess it was a decent attempt to make a 'different' film staying in the realm of commercial/ parallel cinema. And last but not the least, thank you so much for coming to my review and commenting! Me honored sir! VRead More

Hi Mazhar!!! Buddy!! This film I was actually disappointed, as I have written in my comments above, it has only represented one aspect and overlooked many others. Technicality and visuals were top notch, rest was just ok...nothing great :( I recommend watching 'Rendition' instead. Thanks for... being here as always buddy! VRead More

Hi Sujata:) Good to see you here buddy! Welcome to my space and thanks so much for the kind words. You know, I can't tell you how overwhelmed with emotion I was as I was penning this review. I was disappointed with the film, it could only touch the surface, and represented one angle and overlo...oked so many important aspects. John's character really needed to be written with more intricate details. Thanks again! VRead More

Hello Samir :) Thanks buddy! You were there as well, so I am sure you can relate to my feelings at many levels. What happened was unfathomable and I think people like us will remember it for the rest of our lives. I don't know if you have already seen 'Rendition', but if you haven't as yet, I... recommend you watch it. Its a wonderful film, and it has represented both the CIA aspects and the victim's aspect on torture and really tugged at the emotions and mental framework at many levels. VRead More

Hermit!! Brother, thanks for the wonderful comment. Even as I was writing the review, all those memories were coming back to me and I was feeling awful. I will try to pen it as a DP someday, but its quite hard, as it makes me very very emotional. You know, I have still kept the suit and tie as i...t is in a packet. I never got it dry cleaned. I don't think I can ever wear that one again. LOL@forgetting about logic and Bollywood flicks. I feel that for a film like this, they should have paid more attention and represented both sides. Also, I kept thinking if they were such best friends, and completely lost touch, in today's day and age what about e-mails, chats etc.....Oh Well...you know I had written a lot longer review, but had to edit out many things :( due to the 7500 character limit. Thanks for being here and for your lovely comment! VRead More
