Dear Mr Madanmohan My only argument is that if every virtue is discouraged and seen as old-fashioned, young minds will be negatively influenced Don't misunderstand my firmness to be my rigidity. I am open to new ideas - if RDB would have projected itself as an entertainer, I have no issues - but w...hen it treads on both entertainment and patriotism - the message that comes out more evidently is that the system fails and that one has to take law in his hands. Overall we are only debating over the love for life or the love for a virtue Love for a virtue ought to rank above and though it may be difficult to practise, one should not be discouraged. AT least the knowledge of the truth will be able to correct if the possibility exists. Hi I am strongly against showing of smoking and unnecessary violence. The problem with RDB is that it wants the best of both worlds. A David Dhawan movie never claims that it will influence you towards patriotism. However RDB wants first to connect to the youth by having objectionable content and a...lso try to say that here is a movie which is about patirotism. Sorry I see a serious problem here. Moreover why do you forget that while there may be many voluntary smokers, there are some youngsters who have never smoked till now and may get influenced as their 'Bhagat Singh' smokes It is shameful to compare - as the times were different. No one is encouraging the killings done by Bhagat Singh - but that is lame defence to permit such violence as shown in the movie I am not here to say what should cinema be like But please - for God's sake - there are many good things happening too- at least sometimes try and make a movie on that. Thanks for your comments Mr Madan First a clarification - I never said that people who consumed opium earlier were doing a good thing - so that assumption is totally a creation of your imagination and should be done away with. Common sense suggests that smoking is slow suicide - is this the way... a generation awakens? or approaches the grave? Decide for yourself please We differ at one point - you tend to believe that murdering the one who has done something wrong will free the world of his crimes while I believe that while the murderer lives, he can be first taught the lesson of justice Why - Mr Godse who was hanged for killing Gandhiji did not repent one bit The difference lies not in the form of punishment (life sentence or murder) but in communicating what is wrong and setting a better example for generations to come As far as the message in the end is concerned, what did you remember first? that they did the right thing or the moral? Young children too come to see the movie - if bad words like behen de takke and vulgar dialogues are used, there is a serious problem. I disagree with the logic that since someone goes through injustice, show it exactly the way it happens. Hi Nice review - am not surprised that most of the youth today justify violence. Do you really think that corruption is the root problem? I don't think so. I think the more serious problem is high standard of living and big dreams. Also the ones who have taken revenge also don't find any peace o...f mind. I totally agree with you and your review. The sad part is that the medium that cinema is - it is largely an entertainment medium and you can't really help it - people going to watch cinema - mostly expect entertainment stuff. The right medium for such messages is schools, colleges, seminars - which ...none of these filmmakers with good intentions tap. The reason is obvious - they are here to make money. Swades and Shikhar were better movies. Also, nowadays it has become fashionable to show 'grey' elements and not connect to absolute goodness, terming such characters as preachy.
