Hey Ormaz, thanks for being the first commenter on my review! I purchased my Micra way back in June. The Liva was released very recently. All the same I genuinely believe that no one should purchase a premium mid sized diesel or petrol without test driving the Micra. Had I just stuck to the media re...views, i would never have made this purchase. It was the test drive that tilted everything in its favour.!Read More

When I went in for the Micra Diesel I had comprehensively driven and mulled over for more than a month the other competitors like the Fabia, Punto, i20 and also the New Swift(could not drive this one:) Of all the cars the Micra stood out in terms of the sheer brilliance in the drive departmen...Read more

It is murderously overpriced. The Getz failed because of pricing and here again we have another example. The Swift is undoubtedly the king in this segment and has the best looks, the best engine in both the petrol and diesel versions and the best servicing network amongst competitors.

Here is some news Ford Fiesta & Autocar India’s New Mileage Marathon Published by karthi March 19th, 2008 in Auto News. Autocar India and Ford Fiesta’s Duratorq TDCi have done it again! The two have partnered to establish yet another record-breaking feat, Bangalore-Mumbai Mileage Marathon ...on a single tank of fuel. In doing so, they have set a new mileage record of 33.4 km/ litre under real road conditions. Autocar India’s team of three drivers drove the Ford Fiesta 1.4-litre Duratorq TDCI diesel for a distance of 996.7kms between Bangalore and Mumbai using only 29.8-litres of diesel. The Ford Fiesta used for this Mileage Marathon did not undergo any modifications or changes. The drive was flagged-off from Ford’s dealership Metro Ford in Bangalore on 16th of February 2008. The car’s fuel tank was topped up and sealed at the start. A team of experts from Ernst & Young and Motor Sports Association of India supervised and audited the challenge. Recording an average speed of 46.5kph, the Fiesta took 24 hours & 20 minutes to cover the distance. The Fiesta encountered different terrain – from the great Golden Quadrilateral, to patches of bad roads, traffic jams and the occasional stray cow! This ensured that the car was driven in real-world traffic conditions. Scott McCormack, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford India, flagged-in the cars on 17th February, at SC Ford in Mumbai. ”I am extremely excited that Ford Fiesta is part of this record breaking initiative, more so because this Marathon has been on real Indian road conditions. This is further endorsement of the quality and efficiency of Fiesta’s modern and superior Duratorq TDCi Diesel engine and Ford’s world-class automotive technology. Always known for great performance and handling, Fiesta Diet Diesel boasts of unmatched mileage that can exceed customers’ expectation and benefit them hugely.” Read More

Did you buy the ZXi? If you are getting 15 kmpl now it will evenutally go to around 18 kmpl. The first 5 tanks full of diesel is amazing to watch how the mileage keeps improving. I get 16+ consistently irrespective of how I drive

Good Review, though I wish someone over here checks out how service is at Hyundai and Maruti. WHat are the cost of spares at other brand service stations and lets me know how much more expensive Ford really is over the competition. usually and more often than not, a bad reputation gained sticks for ...life even after reformationRead More

Nitinbhaskar If you have the cash to plump in for a Laura, it would be my humble advice to you to test drive the Ford Endeavour that comes in at the same price, has a 2.5 liter 143 BHP TDCI engine (Laura makes a measly 87 BHP or so, just check out the exact number). Ford maintenance being high is... in my opinion blown highly out of proportion. Needs a serious debate which I guess is out of scope of this blog! If you are in Bangalore, plump in for Cauvery as your dealer Warm RegdsRead More

The real fun starts when the Chevrolet Aveo is released later on next year with the Swift Diesel engine. Then these two engines become comparable truly as pulling a hatchback and a sedan are different ball games alltogether

I did ask for a Diesel Swift test drive, but in Bangalore Maruti dealers are in no mood to take bookings, leave alone giving people test drives of the Swift. My friend who worked at Toyota and who is also an auto fanatic drove it and told me that its sluggish till 2000 RPM and the moment the needle ...touches 2000 RPM, you get that big kick in the pants that propels the car real fast. Personally this is something that is archaic in technology (Indigo behaves like this), dangerous to the guy who is driving ahead of you and last but not the least, makes driving in low RPM geographies like Bangalore an absolute pain. To put perspective to this, let me tell you that I change gears in my Fiesta at 2000 RPM and that is after my torque has peaked and I have used the turbo to FULL! I am completing the usage of the turbo where others start using it! Yes on the highways the Swift beats the Fiesta, but I drive just 5-10 % of my total kms on the highway!Read More

I agree with Chandrakanth that if one is a speed demon, then the Fiesta is not the one to choose. My usage is 80% going and coming from office in chok a block Bangalore traffic. Swift and Verna are both using turbochargers that activate only beyond the 2000 RPM mark and believe me there is very litt...le opportunity for you to do that in Bangalore....only highway driving can alleviate this issue. The turbo lag in the Swift is very glaring and yes I admit that this car beats me on the higway. But I am mainly a city animal! Regarding the Verna one thing you will notice is that despite having close to 24 KGM of torque and a whopping 110 BHP to boot, this car's gear ratios have it down very badly. You cannot potter around in the city in the third gear and fourth gear at very low speeds. For example I can run the Fiesta Diesel at 20-25 kmph speeds in 4th gear. This is what truly brings a lot of joy in driving this vehicle in 'normal' traffic conditions! This is however not possible on the Verna. Speed Auto Show's Renuka Kriplani and Hormazd Sorabjee, demonstrated this inability of the Verna vis a vis the Fiesta on video! Regarding the old Ford Ikon Diesel, I believe there is absolutely no comparison between the new Diesel and its older avatar. They are as different as chalk and cheese.Read More

Hey Alk, I drove the Hyundai Verna as well and eliminated it from my choice of cars much before and finally looked at just the Logan and the Fiesta. The Fiesta is expensive because it is a made for India car sold only in India and nowhere else. This makes its parts bin very exclusive and hence ...the costs Hyundai Verna is definitely more spacious but its drivers position was like sitting in a well almost (I am tall and hence did not like it). The other more important reason why I eliminated this from my potential list was that in the refinement stakes, it was miles apart from the ultra refined Fiesta. The Verna is just a very powerful engined car with very little refinement. its is coarse and hoarse!Read More

The AMP at Ford includes the warranty which on an average is Rs 5000 per year. A company that tells you to buy its AMP at an amplified price definitely does not mean they have less confidence in their product. It simply means they are overpricing the service! BTW the Fiesta is a 3rd generation CRDI ...motor and the only one in this class. All the others are either 1st or 2nd generation CRDI motors which are not as responsive as the 3rd generation ones. Verna is definitely a more powerful car than the Fiesta but in the refinement stakes, it falls way behind.Read More

To add my pence to this, let me say that comparing the Zen with the Ford Diesel was a wrong comparison. Please compare the Ford Fiesta Petrol 1.4 with the Ford Fiesta Diesel 1.4 since they are similarly powered with the same cubic capacity. The Petrol Zxi is 1 lakh cheaper than the Diesel Zxi. Anoth...er point I want to raise with all those interested in the petrol vs diesel discussion is that please look at the entire ownership cycle into consideration which includes not just purchase and runing costs but also the second hand value in terms of salvage costs which are so essential in making a difference to the money you will have to plump in from your pocket for your next car! The reality is the Diesel vehicles (other than the Tata vehicles due to poor reliability) hold out their values much better than the petrols. Petrol vehicles depreciate very very fast until and unless its a Toyota or a Honda compared to diesel vehicles. Even today a well maintained 3-4 year old Ford Ikon Diesel which is no great shakes in terms of technology (its not even turbo charged) commands 4-5 lakhs in the used car market compared to the paltry 2-2.5 lakhs that you will get for a 1.6 Nxt. This aspect of the cost has to be taken into consideration by analysts when they coolly say that petrols are better if your running is below a particular limit.Read More

The Ford Fiesta Diesel is the only 3rd generation Commom Rail engine apart from the Mercs. Even the Swift diesel cannot be compared to it as its a generation older and has serious issues with power in the lower bands. The Fiesta diesel is a car with little or no turbo lag as the turbo kicks in at 12...00 RPM compared to 2000 RPM for the other CRD engines. All comparable cars are in the same price band and yes the Fiesta is built purely for India unlike the rest and will therefore be slightly on the higher side when it comes to costs.Read More
