I came here just to read a few reviews dissing this silly movie and yours is the best amongst them. Good job!

Some good critical insights, which if only presented in a more coherent, cohesive structure with an eye on grammar and sentence formation could have been more effective. But that is a slightly semantic view of your review, otherwise I understand and get your points of view, hence the V.U. Nice analy...sis. Read More

@ v_vshetty - I agree. @ sydbarett - Thanks a lot dude. I am far too busy with academia there days for MS, but I have noticed that the quality of reviews on MS has gone down rather drastically, hasn't it... what's up with 4 line reviews in sms language plaguing MS these days? @ sandeepkanchi - tha...nks mate! @ Nirvana. - Thanks dude, yes Slumdog was my last here, I agree with you, Bollywood has wrong notions about 'feminism' and is confused on a number of other things. Biopic or not, didn't think much of it. @ ayanmisra - Yes Ayan, it is all about 'selling' in Bollywood, isn't it? Just dont give me bull about serious, intelligent cinema please. @ vaibhavi990 - yes, no wonder it was named 'THE DIRTY....', thanks for reading though! @ GEETA1963 - Thanks for stopping by, Geeta!Read More

Don't agree with you about the film, as you may have guessed having read my review, but found the review quite thorough and well written, therefore the V.U.

Very well written Nitin, I have just written a review on the same and have taken a rather diametricall opposite view on the film, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying a wel worded, grammatically correct, complete review in comparison with all the 3 para 'reviews' in sms language I find lying all a...round MS these days (I have been off MS for a long while now and am saddened to see the quality dip). Anyway, though i don't agree with you about the film, good review nonetheless. Do read mine if you care to. Ta, NarenRead More

Let me get the one saving factor out of the way at the outset, Vidya Balan has proven herself as a (and I will not go overboard in heaping praise) fine and capable actress in this project and I think that about covers the positive/s of this film. Mediocre script and direction, a disoriented narr...Read more

Hi Syd, Logged in after a long, long time and was skimming through random revives and when on the verge of giving up on the quite degenerated quality of review writing on the site, I come across yours, a pleasantly surprising change from rather basic, grammatically incorrect, incoherent and worse... witless writings. You have written well and the heavy tinge of sarcasm makes it more enjoyable. FoxRead More

The brilliance of Narayan is his simplistic depiction of normal day to day characters and lives set in the small town of Malgudi. The charm lies in the uncomplicated writing style and the subtle references and attention to detail, especially significant to a south indian who has had the fortune of s...eeing and participating to a very small degree in such a world. It makes for such vivid nostalgic associations that I sigh considerably loudly as I write this. I, therefore, have read almost all his writings and cherish all of it. So, i have to disagree to the statement 'not the best'.. I agree, there may be some occasions when the reader can get bored, especially if you have, like me, not been a part of this society he describes. Anyway, I wish you review was more detailed and had more to say than just a brief summary of the protagonist and the setting of the book, was expecting a bit more, if not analysis, outburst of your thoughts and understandings. I did like your pickings though - the last one - 'why' and 'why not' especially.. good one, that.Read More

The review is written with a gusto, possibly induced by the clear dislike for the movie, and that takes after my own style of writing, thus, I greatly enjoyed it. However, unlike a lot of other reviewers whose zest overcomes the logic of their critical analysis, this does not fall into that trap. I... think all the points made are valid and incisive. The package makes the cinema and the contents of the package have to be analyzed to report the effectiveness of the film, therefore, I agree with the observations about the defective supporting actors, lack of regional atmosphere etc... We have a tendency of overlooking a lot of flaws forcing ourselves to the brilliance of a movie, possibly because we crave for such brilliance in Indian cinema. Unfortunately, 'Bollywood' has stopped coming anywhere close to brilliance for a while now (with few notable exceptions, of course), so let's not kid ourselves... I noticed adjectives like 'classic' and 'brilliant' being used in other reviews and comments, I have not seen this movie, so I do not want to comment on the validity of these descriptions, but I generally think, we use a rather independent, worn down and non standard scale to calibrate our movies, so I doubt these judgments very much. Sheetal, I like your writing style and your language. I only wished you had presented a slightly detailed report on the plot, so that the structure of the review was more complete. All said, it was a good and enjoyable review, which put me off of what was anyway minuscule interest towards this product... that is what good reviews achieve... help change or register your bias, cause I don't believe there is anything known as 'unbiased' review. Good job! P.S - the last comment by 'Joamon' suggested you might have liked 'Ghajni', I haven't seen it, but have seen the original... and unless you mean it in a sarcastic way, I am hoping you won't say 'Yes, I loved it' Read More

Very well written Neelamraju. I have not seen the movie and don't think I will. I liked kukunoor style of direction, and I agree, he should stick to his forte, but can't comment too much on his latter movies as the last one I have seen of his was 'Dor', which i quite liked. I have just finished discussing the movie with a friend over the phone and have no intentions of visibly raising my blood pressure by fumigating and going over the blatant flaws of this unworthy film... of course, it has its good points, some of which I have mentioned in my review of the same. I mus...t agree with you on almost all fronts and appreciate the way you have presented your observations. I usually like more details and in depth analysis in reviews, but I can ignore my needs for this one as I find it increasingly harder to find logical, thinking minds and sensible reviews on this movie, and I can't pick on minor lapses. I also quite like the fact that you have not taken the usual 'Oh! my country is being portrayed....' stance and are viewing it from a broader perspective of the product as a piece of film making. And, finally, I couldn't quite understand the comments of 'Skimran' and 'TITUHKP' neither. Do read my review on this one, if you are interested. Thanks.Read More

V.J, slightly dissapointed that you have not presented a more in-depth analysis, review seems rather a broad overview till the 'tips to become' section.. that was humorous and true. What I detest about a lot of the reality shows is the unnecessary use of seemingly contrived indecent behaviour: fig...hts, bitching, back biting, bullying and profanity to get the TRP up and to keep the viewers hooked. Roadies follows this plot to the 'T'. Unfortunately, I realize the necessities of the commercial, corporate world we live in and so all this, I grudgingly accept. I plainly refused to watch, in fact was disgusted with the selection process, where 2 blokes, whose only possible qualification is that they are the producers with the power and money, can so thoroughly destroy someone's self confidence with a ridiculously exaggerated sense of 'god-like' powers and using the worst possible language. Who are they to judge other kids with philosophies such as 'aaj Ga*d ley lunga....', 'thera Phat jayenga aaj' etc. really, who do they think they are?? I must add, i have not too much sympathy with the 'wannabe rock stars' contestants and applicants; they are all, as you mentioned, a bunch of overly bloated ego maniacs, who have their parents money to blow up, half baked language abilities (discounting the punjabi/hindi overuse), and a total combined IQ level, still much below mine... and yes V.J, let's not discuss 'attitude' here, everyone seem to have their own takes on it and we know what it means in 'MTV roadies' All that said, I have begun watching a couple of the recent episodes and watch it more to ridicule the fools and laugh at them... but the girls are all pretty, must say. V.J, you don't really need to be athletic or greatly adventurous, the tasks are not very hard anyway... come off it, hogging like a pig and then being given purgatives, is not really a task involving athleticism or a sense of adventure, is it? Nice review though, enjoyed reading it.Read More

Babu, really liked the review, it is rather to similar to my style of writing and like the sarcasm in between. I have not read the book and so cannot comment on it, plan to borrow it (as you have recommended) from the library, definitely will not buy it.. will let you know once I have completed read...ing the book, if I agree with your observations. Just a personal suggestion, from your observations, I can conclude that this is not a literary classic by any standards, so my point in reading it will have to be the plot, which though sounds rather 'masala'ish from what I have heard and also the fact that it is about my city and country.... but now that you have revealed the plot almost completely, I have to suffer reading it for no reason except the 'my city/country' reason... should have refrained from revealing the story. Still a good review... i'd recommend 'The red carpet' by Lavanya Shankaran, a book in a similar vein, a collection of short stories set in Bangalore, but deep and true, unlike this book.Read More

Ms. Joshi, It is a delight to read views so similar and expressed such that I feel I could have been writing it myself. Very well written; clear, concise and structured. I appreciate the fact that there are still writers here, who can analyze the product (for whatever it is worth, example - this cas...e), express clearly and eloquently and most importantly, correctly. I have, to my dismay, been reading a number of reviews off late lacking in proper (even basic) language and grammatical conformity and it is good to come across writers who can manage these. I tend to agree on most of your generic observations about the writer and his works (I cannot comment on the specifics of this book, as I have not read it yet - and probably never will), but I must disagree with you last statement - 'We do not want to lose a good.....', As I believe CB has never ever been or will be anything but very mediocre in any literary genre. Do read my review on CB's 'One night...'. I have a feeling you will agree with my reflections on it.Read More

I won't be too harsh on your first review, but you do need to take care of a few basic things such as vocabulary, composition and structure. Try and express yourself in proper and complete sentences and structure the writing in paragraphs, makes it so much easy for the reader. Avijit, my man.... excellent review on an excellent movie. I watched this movie a few days ago, and if not for the pile of pending academic writing I am undertaking, I would have written a review on this superb piece of work, and had all intentions of heaping a load of praise on Rourke. You have jus...t beaten me to it and I am glad you appreciated all the nuances of the movie as much as I did. I am now wondering if I should write another review on this as you have covered almost everything I wanted to. I am usually not generous in my acknowledgment of good writing, but, yours deserves a 'V.Useful'. Great structure, uncomplicated writing and in depth analysis. Good one, mate!Read More

Absolutely agree with 'darshanvalia', makes for hard reading this... seems to me, your language is rather good for you to be missing out on proper punctuations... maybe you were in a hurry. Anyway, I agree, mostly, with your sentiments, except that it gets more and more incoherent towards the end a...nd it seems like a rush of thoughts. I do not agree with your 'which is better' line. I think we deserve all types of movies, the epically unfathomable and unrealistic illusions of some Bollywood movies like 'Rab ne...' etc, the logical and well presented 'Tare...' and the realism of say 'Salaam Bombay, Ardh Satya' etc.. I am a fan of the latter two types though. But this movie is a sham, it is neither of these three and wants to be all of these. I liked your 'never judge a book by its film' adage. 'V.Useful', not for the presentation but some of your views.Read More

Quite a restrained review... I don't quite understand, why YOU did not pen your vies and opinions more articulately. i think your intelligent views deserved a more elaborate review. Having said that, i appreciate the fact that you are against joining the popular stampede and advocate independent th...inking. I don't quite get the hysteria about this film, as all it is, and I have said this a thousand times already, is a wannabe realistic yet commercial masala sell out flick.... so damn the academy and other bodies, I don't need them telling me what a good movie is.
