I did not go to watch this movie for the sheer substance it might have contained but for the sheer hype and hoopla that it generated winning the Golden Globe and I dunno how many other awards

The movie's theme, a rather quintessential way all foreigners look at India and there itself the movie was impoverished in my eyes. Albeit a film version of a novel and nothing novel in this, for never judge a book by its film is a new adage

The plot is just like any other Kaun Banega Crorepati types -the rags to riches story-boy meets girl-goondas and what not ills any city can show and then if the backdrop happens to be Mumbai then we have a fantastic recipe for pessimism and shocking happenings

The plot hovers around three slum children, a sort of a Bermuda love triangle with one perforce. Some depiction of riots as being instrumental in the depiction of the aftermath and human psychology and vulturine renditions of human deformations and the pitiable way the street urchins are treated is the abject surrender of the viewer and an insult to humanity

Sadly all this is true and much more remains as a skeleton in the closet. The inhuman acts of mass destruction the human orgies of vast devastations the thoroughly corrupt ways of men and women to hog the limelight the limitless ways of idiots running amok in the name of caste creed sex.

The power to be powerful to be absolutely powerful amidst absolute corruption and the lawless ways and on on and then to pay for a movie ticket to watch all this and acclaim this as a movie never made before.....you decide what is better.. a truth that draws a tear or a lie that brings a smile

Fantastic acting by the kids and nothing wrong with this eulogising whence you come to know their actual backgrounds---and I really hope they are compensated well for their acting

The grownups have acted well too and you can put the blame on the director for this and the superb cinematography with which the viewer is kept mesmerized and the icing on the cake is A R Rahman's music which keeps the viewer glued to the seat

The heavy British accent of the main protagonist is a giveaway. Human psyche has been delved properly and climactically with a dog eat dog syndrome thrown into and then the ending you gotta check it out
