Reviewed Learning to Drive

When people tell you that they don?t know how to drive? laughing on their faces is probably one of the worst things you could do to them, and to yourself. Learning to drive can be a pretty tough proposition to some people like me? just as it is very hard to get out honorable ex Prime Minister...Read more

I guess you wrote this review when you were neither sleeping nor wide awake. I don't understand how you awarded the Plaza four stars when you did not recommend it. MS is a place where people come here to share their experiences on Products and Services. It's sincere, honest and ethical stuff ...down here. Please remember that what you key in is being read atleast by another 100 people - so you will have to try to be a bit more useful. For starters, I didn't get the slightest clue where this 'Arihant Plaza' is...and after that you hardly give me the information on the outlets there....and your 'slang' makes it all the more difficult. Hoping to see better reviews from you. ContechRead More

Hello Prabha I am a Chennai resident and I enjoy sweets from SKS as much as you do. What I don't understand is - when you clearly state that you are in love with SKS and what they sell, how come you haven't recommended them in your ratings? Please be more careful in your comunication. O...therwise, you review was pretty fine. Nice to see someone on MS who loves SKS as much as I do. Keep writing. ContechRead More

Hello Sunil Why do you blame your mechanic for your folly? I think the problem lies in your not ‘running in’ the bike properly. Hey…let me tell you what ‘running in’ a new / rebored engine means. After the bike has been rebored, the bike should be ridden only at 5...0 kmph for the first 1000 kms. After crossing the 1000 km mark religiously (I did it for 3000 kms), you are now ready to increase your bike speed to 60 km/hr. For that, when riding at 50 kmph, slowly increase your bike speed from 50 – 60 kmph and hold it at that speed for 30 seconds, definitely not more than that. After 30 seconds, bring the speed back down to 50 kmph. Don’t repeat this for at least 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, again increase your bike speed from 50 – 60 kmph. Now hold still for about 45 seconds. At the end of 45 seconds, drop back to 50km.hr. Like think increase your time duration at 60 km/hr to 1 min., 2 min., 5 min., 10 min., and so on. Then you increase your bike speed to 70km/hr and so on. Keep STRICT track of the time in this excercise - otherwise results will be disastrous. I hope you understand what happened in your case – after the initial 1000 kms, you tried to whack the hell out of your machine – bike speeds don’t jump from 50 to 150kmph just like that – there are certain practices involved in running in a new / rebored engine. Improper running in of the engine leads to excessive wear between the various components of the engine (pistons and cylinder wall). If you open up the engine, you will see the scratches on the bored and pistons. You will also see a lot of gleamy metallic particles with the engine oil that came from the pistons and cylinder wall, because of some ruthless riding. There is nothing you can do now – go back to a good mechanic, get the bike rebored again, get new pistons, rings, and liners. Use good imported spark plugs and electricals. ContechRead More

Dear Balagi I have been a hostel guy for more than half of my academic life. Your review was more than what was required to remind me of my collegemates and school mates. The part where you get to adjust with your room mates and share things with them and gradually change yourself according to th...e needs - all this is TOO good yaar. Brings tears to my eyes when I read your review. I love your review - it truly describes how the hostel transforms a boy into a man. It truly brings out all the reviews. Hello Everybody The review on the Maruti Versa was absolutely great. But I wouldn't say the same about the product though! C'mon guys - we all know - the Versa is a Maruti Omni upgrade! Don't tell me that Maruti has better R&D facilities than the guys at the US. For years together, Maruti ...Udyog has purchased junk outdated technology from the Chinese and has given us shoddy products. Have any of you noticed the plastics they use in their cars? Side Bars for safety? Give me a break! The doors are hardly thick enough to really have any protection devices within them? Do they have airbags? Do they have the crumple zones in the front and rear for the safety of the passengers? Would you let someone in your family (your wife) drive something that offers absolutely no safety for the driver? Safety isn't in the Neembu - Mirchi that is hung infront of the car - it starts at the point of Manufacture. Maruti - safe care? C'mon... We Indians cry at the top of our voices when we lose someone we love, probably we can make sensible decisions instead. The Tavera's got lot more to offer in this segment - and let me tell you - my grandmom could drive the Tavera - that is the comfort and driveability it offers! I am no Tavera sales man - just someone trying to tell the truth. ContechRead More

Dear Vikas I own a Yamaha RX - 135 too. Too sorry to hear about your fate man... Really don't know what to say - but I appreciate your passion for a Yamaha. Yeah...it's really cheap to get it shining brand new really. You can actually rejuvenate the engine by getting a simple rebore operati...on done on your machine. Dear Rushabh I am extremely sorry for what happened to you. The people at the dealership should have admitted themselves to you and have it repaired at their cost. The need to earn some fast money disrespecting ethics is the reason for such incidents. There was a dealership in Chennai for ...Hyundai called Bohra Hyundai. This scoundrel used to get cars from the Hyundai plant, replace all the original parts with duplicates and sell the car (original parts replaced by duplicates) to the customer. The original parts used to be sold off in the black market. But they sold a large number of cars every month because if their really easy finance policies and so on. The people at Hyundai didn't waste too much time smelling the rat (Koreans seem to be pretty good at it), and booked a car with them and inspected the car thoroughly after delivery and spotted all the changes that had been done by the people at Bohra. Well...the dealership was immediately cancelled! I guess compared to Bohra, the Ichibaan dealer is a zillion times better!!! Keep writing and sharing on MS. ContechRead More

Dear Sekhar I am really sorry for you and the guys at Kinetic. Personally, I always felt that LML had a lot to offer from its stables compared to the other new comers like Kinetic. 60kmpl is really good mileage - and that is definitely bound to improve after your second or third service. Pleas...e don't whack the bike right now to check its top speed. There are precise methods of running in brand new machines. Whacking of a new machine will only lead to engine seizure and some heavy expenses from your wallet. If you want to know how to 'run in' your new bike, please let me know by the M2M Messenger service and I will reply. I guess you are stuck to the Kinetic Velocity right now - that is why several commuters buy more time tested products from manuacturers like Bajaj and Hero Honda. I hope your review will help people understand not to go by the claims of ALL the manufacturers. Anway...keep writing about your experiences. Looking forward. ContechRead More

Commented on deus's review

Jun 25, 2004 01:44 PM

Dear Deus The Ambassador is a true Indian car when it comes to semi urban use. But at the same time, it has its own faults. The huge numbers of Indians working abroad in various sectors and on important projects is really astounding. Only goes to prove that the average Indian utilizes his brai...ns more effectively. But unfortunately, the previous generation had all the access to capital required - but they did not invest wisely in R&D. The huge amounts of profits earned were put to waste for their own lavish lifestyles. I am not stating that profit earning entrepreneurs should live in poverty, but if they had made wise investments in R&D (in terms of capital and brains), the Ambassador could have been well a car at par with international levels, be it in design or technicalities. People who enjoyed then and did not realize the value of R&D are now struggling with sales today. This is not only in the Indian automobile segment, but in electronics and so on. I hope the Indian manufacturers catch up with the trend. They have got plenty of work to do and have started late in the race of technology. But better late than never. Nice review. Keep writing. Commented on madlalya's review

Jun 24, 2004 04:47 PM

Dear Madlalya I am basically an advertising guy into some good time advertising. Don't worry...I am not the guy who made the movie - so I am not going to go all out and defend it. But as a ad person, there are somethings I would like to point out. 1.No carbonated drinks ad actually talks like ...a documentary - about whether it will quench your thirst and what it does to your body. 2.There are humpty number of drinks in the market. Using superstars has been in the industry for a long time - this must have simply been an attempt to do something different. 3.This campaign was not all about placing the brand, but getting the target audience exposed to the brand and remember the brand. The descriptive way you have penned down the screenplay shows that you remember the ad and that is all they want at this point of time. So...they have won. 4.The target audience is pretty well defined for every brand in western countries. In USA, the guy drinking Coke is considered more of a family oriented person while a Pepsi drinking guy is considered more of a guy in his youth. It is only in India that there is not much of a distinction since the distribution for these brands is not all that perfect. So the audience keeps interchanging their brand of cool drink. So the people who did the Mountain Dew ad have clearly used the age of the audience to define their target market. The ad might have been foolish, but they won in a way - the brand is now registered in your memory. I have tried the product, its not all that bad. The way you write your review is really great and I happened to love it. Congrats on your 150th review. Keep writing. ContechRead More

Hello Visgarg I think that Vroom word belongs to the Activa campaign, doesn't it? But I would rate the Activa higher in terms of reliability than the Kinetic Nova. Anyway... the Kinetic Honda ruled the segment for decades till the guys at Bajaj and Honda caught on. Blame it on the inferior im...portance given to R&D by our Indian companies. But I have always respected Kinetic for their innovations, they were the people who brought in the side stand indicator concept in two wheelers and so on. Kinetic Nova's a pretty good bike and I am happy you made a good purchase. Have fun and keep writing. ContechRead More

Pretty good review about what the car feels like to be used. The Indian market has evolved considerably and Maruti Alto could be used as a entry level car for those commuters who are ugrading from two wheelers. Jun 23, 2004 04:38 PM

Hello Ravee The Hero Honda is imprisoned with the image that all their products are geared up to give the best mileage. Have you noticed that the Hero Honda tag does not dominate in their campaigns when they come up with new performance oriented versions like the CBZ and Karizma? This is done wit...h the intent that the audience should not expect mileage from the performance oriented machines. The stying on the Hero Honda Splendor WAS a hit in the nineties and I agree that they have a majority market share. But nowadays its not the styling that sells this machine - it's just the mileage. With the entry of LML in this segment and Overdrive already having claimed LML to deliver superior mileage, the guys at Hero Honda have something to think about. You are right - the bike requires perfect riding. Its not a machine for the people who wish to ride rashly. Keep writing. ContechRead More

The top speeds of the Hero Honda Karizma and the Pular 180 DTS - i were compared sometime back. The Karizma has some better accelaration at the top end owing due more cc. But the Pulsar 180 DTS - i can easily cross the 130 kmph while the Karizma coughs up at 125 kmph. I am happy that you have ma...de a SUPER decision to buy the Pulsar 180. Hey but one thing - not many bikes offer really absolute good traction on wet roads. It's risky - so take care. The fall isn't worth it - that's all I can tell for now. Great review - hoping you have more wonderful moments with this machine. ContechRead More
