Source: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/City/Bangalore/Court-puts-on-hold-principals-transfer/articleshow/5933294.cms BANGALORE: The additional city civil and sessions court on Friday stayed the transfer of the principals of Bishop Cotton Boys and Girls Schools till the suit filed by them is... disposed of. The order was passed by judge Bheemappa Jattennanavar. As per the May 7 transfer order, issued by Bishop Vasanth Kumar, the two principals were to have handed over charge by Friday evening. A criminal case was registered against the bishop in the Cubbon Park police station on the orders of the Fourth ACMM Court for 'misappropriation of school funds for personal gain'. The members of the Bishop Cotton Parents' Association expressed happiness at the order. 'Truth and justice have prevailed. This victory is just the first step. The School Management Committee will bring in better governance through various steps being planned as per the law, including revamping of the board of management, the executive committee and related organs of the Church of South India that affect the functioning of the schools,' James Arun, advocate, parent and CSI member, told TOI. A PIL has also been filed by the parents in the Karnataka High Court on May 11, seeking implementation of the Right to Education Act, by forming an SMC comprising 75% parents to monitor schools' working. The court will hear the matter after the vacation.Read More

Bishop Cotton school principals to resign TNN, Mar 25, 2010, 03.11am IST BANGALORE: In two of Bangalore’s most hallowed of educational institutions, there’s a crisis of confidence at the top. The principals of Bishop Cotton Boys’ and Girls’ Schools want to quit. Citing interference in day-to-day... administration by the board of management, threatening emails and phone calls, they want to call it a day as they have been stripped of all powers. It is sad that in institutions that schooled scientist Raja Ramanna, Infosys co-founder and UIDAI chief Nandan Nilekani, General K S Thimayya, cricketer Brijesh Patel, Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar Shaw and AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa, things have come to such a pass that the turf war between the principals and the board has led to the principals wanting out. It’s also bad news for its current student body — 5,300 boys and 3,700 girls — mainly children of the city’s elite, bureaucrats and politicians. 'We are humiliated in front of students. Teachers and other staff members are allowed to meet the board members directly, making the principal’s post redundant. They keep tabs on our visitors and our movements. The board of management cannot be policing us. We are fed up,' school principals John Ellis and Princess Franklyn told The Times of India on Wednesday. The last straw was the board taking over admissions for the academic year 2010-11 in which the principals had no role to play. When contacted for his version on the turn of events, chairman of the board of management, Rev S Vasanth Kumar, said: 'Ask them to read the constitutional by-laws of the school which has been provided to them. The board has its powers. Principals have to exercise their powers within the constitution of the by-laws.' Established in 1865, Bishop Cotton School started as an institution for the Anglo-Indian and European students. In 1911, the school split into two — one for the boys and another for the girls. Both the schools are ruRead More

Today is Saturday, Feb 6, 2010. I just heard from a very reliable source that the CSI Church leaders are 'selling' seats at Bishop Cotton Boys and Girls schools. This is a huge scam. Please do not fall victim to this scam. CSI worships money, not Jesus!

Hi Mythbuster, Thanks for your review. You may not believe me and call me a 'liar'. That is your choice. I am not going to be upset with you for that. But you may come to my home and ask my 3 year old daughter what happened and she would give you the truth! For the record, we did not admit... our daughter in Bishop Cotton Girls. Please see my reply to Jerry above dated March 13, 2009! I did not go to the press because my parents, who live with me currently, prevented me from doing so. Another reason was Mr. Franklin, husband of Mrs. Franklin, works for Times of India. Hence there is no point even going to the press! I am happy that you are having a pleasant parent-teacher relationship with Mrs. Franklin. I hope it would continue that way. But I don't believe that you had a pleasant conversation with Mrs. Princess Franklin because of my terrible experience with her. I was never 'agitated' in the whole episode. I was upset. I am a manager at an internationally reputed company and I know very well how to stay calm under pressure and when things are not going my way! Last but not the least. I see Mrs. Franklin at our church every Sunday. I always smile at her, but she literally runs away when she sees me. You be the judge!!Read More

Hello gdinu0, the sad part is that in India we just are asked to accept MEDIOCRITY and move on. It is true for all infrastructure like roads, telecommunications, power (electricity), water supply, public transportation etc. Mediocrity dominates even in politics, government, schools and sports too. ...You are only 18 and you may not understand what I am telling you son. I am 36, double your age! Hence you may want to listen to me.... Why can't BSNL perform on par with ISPs in other countries? 1. The telephone cables in India are newer than the cables in the USA. Most newer cables in India are Optical Fiber and not Copper. 2. The protocol used in both countries is TCP/IP. 3. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) is the core routing protocol used in India and the USA. 4. DSL is the technology that provides digital data transmission over the wires on local telephone networks in India and the USA. I am not sure why the majority of the BSNL customers don't raise these questions. Perhaps we are as mediocre as BSNL!!Read More

Hi Jerry, Thanks for your comment. As I had said in my review, I do not know on what basis the selection is made. On the notice boards and even on the application form it was clearly mentioned that the child MUST have completed 4 years old on June 1, 2009 in order to be considered for admissi...on. My daughter completes 4 only in Aug 2009!! So, it was fishy selection right from the beginning!! My wife and I have no problem in waiting another year and trying in Frank Anthony PS, which is just walkable distance from home. Apart from an incompetent, country brute Principal discouraging us, Bishop Cotton Girls' don't have school bus facilities until the student gets to 1st Standard. In that case, it would very difficult for us to drop and pick up our daughter everyday even if we hire a driver for our car! We have to do this for LKG and UKG, which is terrible. Hence I think FAPS would be a better option. I really don't want my daughter to be going to school managed by somebody like Mrs. Princess Franklin!Read More
