Reviewed Umrao Jaan -2006 Bollywood

Jan 12, 2007 05:05 PM 2667 Views

(Updated Jan 12, 2007 05:06 PM)

The title is not my'creation'. It is the comment that came straight from'dil se' of on of the movie watchers in the theater. No offenses, but Umrao Jaan proves that JP Dutta should stick to arms and ammunition only or should I say he is better off on the'Borders' and so should stay away from ...Read more

Nice to see you back in action on M/S.com. Ur article is really though provoking. Although the medical profession is still considered to be most noble, but some people don't feel guilty to bring bad name to it. The problem is that these 'bad name earners' are so much easily available that because... of them even those few good ones also get tarnished. And the general public can't make out who is good and who is bad. However, goodness does not go unnoticed for long. As India Awakens (this is not in context to Rang De Basanti, but to the slogan that our President Mr Abul Kalam has given), I am sure we'll get more dedicated professionals who would outnumber the 'bad name earners' category and we also, as an individual, would have some dignity for all professions. Before I start to 'copy' and 'paste' this, let me tell you that this is no article written by me. I came across this article some days back in the Economic Times and found it very interesting and sarcastic. Then I sat wondering - how to spread the message to more-n-more people and then I thought...Read more

The movie was surely a bad one. A failed attempt to make it a 'Total Hollywood style' movie. I wouldn't be surprised if I come to know that it was a frame-by-frame copy of some Hollywood movie. The story could have been more interesting n gripping had it been given some better treatment. It would h...ave been much tolerable without all those 'out-of-place' songs. thanks for the review. avantikaRead More

Hi Muneeb, I like all your reviews. U have a very typical style of writing... seems u have kept a template for Ur movie reviews and U write all Ur reviews as per that template. I read your review more for its style. Keep it up. Just one correction - Kathrina Kaif (Pooja) is not the daughter... of Khurana. She is daughter of some Big Business man and no politician in the movie. Keep up the good work. All the best, Avantika Read More

Dear Friends, Thanks a lot for the overwhelming and polite response/comments. ‘Overwhelming’ because I was not expecting anybody to even notice my review over such a short period and polite because I was warned by one of my friends to be prepared for the verbal ‘brickbats’... and even some abusive language. But you guys are real darlings. Thanks once again for accepting my thoughts and me. Now, time for some more personalised ‘thanks giving’ ritual. Cticize: It is all about ‘making a point’. Well even small kids make their point by hues n cries but gradually they do learn much better means of making their point – the language. So, high time for star and even non-star writers to learn some good tricks for ‘making their point’. Rohit (Rohitthebest), Vishal (visgarg), Farookh (Mbfarookh), Rajni (rajni_raj): Thanks for all the support and understanding the point. Quite contrasting comments – ‘childish and naïve’, ‘different flavour’, ‘different style’, ‘open-forum’. Interesting though. Keep pouring in the comments, while I prepare myself for some other controversial article. Enjoy mouthshut with open senses, AvantikaRead More

nice effort!... saw Ur list of songs... read the other lists too. To my surprise.. the song sung my Lata jee that made even Nehru jee weep... has no mention in any of the lists. One reason I could understand for the miss out could be that the song is not from any hindi movie. But still... that is on...e immortal number by the nightingale... 'e mere watan ke logo...' I love her songs from Pakizaa, and then one more gazal... hum hai mata-e-koochaa-o-bazaar ke tarah... and remember the song from Anupama in that wispering tone... kuch dil ne kahaa.... U R right... the list is endless... m still wondering how U ppl decide of picking up a few from the whole lot... hats off to U too!!... looking forwars to another set of assorted songs cassette from U... this time 'The Best of Lata' types... luv avantikaRead More
