Vaastu is a science of architecture or construction based on Hindu mythology, being revived by V. Ganapati Sthapati from Chennai, Tamil Nadu since 1960’s. It is applied to Hindu temples for their art and sculpture. In Sanskrit, it refers to ‘a site or foundation of a house, office, ground, habitation, etc. These days it is now a career for many who guide people how to make their dream homes and offices a positive ‘vas’ or abide.


Vaastu is a science and art of determining if something is right or wrong in a house, office or any area. Energies are of two kinds as good and bad, or positive or negative. The Vaastu professionals have the knowledge of good and bad energies. There are many objects available in the market that helps remove the ‘bad’ vaastu and make things correct. The ‘things’ refer to peace and happiness, love life, prosperity, children’s problems, property; you name it. Having read newspapers and novels, following are a few Vaastu tips, easy to practice for any one at home or at work.


Do not live near factories or electrical building e.g. a power station. Hang a metal wind chime to weaken the ‘fire’ from these buildings Put the plants of ‘Annear’, ‘Champa’ and ‘Rudraksha’ in the garden to remove bad Vaastu In the kitchen, grinder, fridge, shelf and other heavy items must be kept to the South and West walls. Bedrooms should be in South and West directions and while sleeping, the head should also be towards South or west but never in the North direction. For Prosperity – Keep the Fengsui frog with money in his mouth with both his front legs being shown but the two legs behind appear as one. In a private house, place two stone lions at each side of the gate entrance. The stone lions guard the house against burglary. Put ‘Horse’s head’ or ‘ghore ki naal’ (a hindu traditional term) at the entrance gate.
