Sound of a Woman

By: Nirvana. | Posted Mar 08, 2009 | General | 886 Views | (Updated Mar 08, 2009 02:50 PM)

Thought I'd write something a little different than what's written about being a "Woman". Almost got bored of reading numerous and very conventional posts, run of the mill posts celebrating the strenght of a woman, what she means to you et al.....

Me wanna talk about music and the my best 8 "her" musicians that have left an indelible impact.

No rank or song/album choice here but just the ones that straight come to my mind amongst various talents......

1. Madonna : I remember once BBC comparing her to the likes of Beethoven, Mozart, Pink Flyod, Beatles, Elvis... The point that they were making is that her music is timesless. One musician who would find strong fan base in every generation.

Feels nostalgic to remember those white cassettes and 30 watts system we used to listen to her on.

My best Album: Like a Virgin, True Blue: The ultimate classic albums..

Other best Singles: Material Girl, Like a Virgin, Papa Don't preach, Angel, Frozen- Classics each one of em, Die another day and Rain

2. Tracy Chapman: The one to pick for the "walk on the beach' sound...just watch the sunset and listen to Tracy Chapman.Bliss!!! But not sure why she ain't that popular. Even on MS theres just one review. Probably the best "acoustic guitar playing" I've seen among...

My best Singles: Has to be Fast Car and Subcity. Others are Bang bang bang and Crossroads

3. Shania Twain:The best when it comes to Country Music: Punidts may argue that me not heard enough of Country Music. Fair enough. Me heard enough of her to have her as among my alll time favourite women artists.

Album- Come on over

Favourite Singles: From this moment, Black Eyes blue tears, Man! I feel Like a woman, That don't impress me much, If you wanna touch ask...

4. Alanis Morissette : 6 grammy awards. Guess that suffices!

5. Mariah Carey: Was someone I wish still dished out her stuff today. probably the only female artist I would listen to growing up. If God could sing like a woman it would be a tough choice between Whitney, Celine and Mariah...

Best Album: Butterfly

6. Celine Dion:Some still love the Titanic OST. To be it's a little corny. I remeber her for a singles than albums such as

Beauty and the beats, A new Day has come, All by self, Falling into you, Lets talk about love, I'm Alive...

7. Avril Lavinge: Not a "Complicated" choice here huh? Shes got a little bit of Grunge, Pop, Damn you attitude that just clicks with this little dynamite.

Album: Let Go

Singles: Complicated, Sk8r boi, Losing Grip

8. Spice Girls: Might be a little corny and very kiddishhhh but dude there're probably the only woman band/group to reach there and stay there for sometime along with Destiny's child.

Can't leave Bollywood, Can you?

  1. Lata: Mabye outtaa sync with the present crop but songs like Luka Chuppi from RDB and her rendition of Vande Mataram gives me goosebumps. Even the very old "mile sur mera tumhara"... Oh lord....A gem in her very own right along with her sibling. Rehamn to me actually brought out the best in both of 'em

  2. Shreya Goshal/Sunidhi Chouhan: Toss up between either one of em.

Other Notable mentions with my best single: (Me not follow their album)

Gloria Gainer - I will Survive-This one the ultimate classic, the uttimate woman's song, a timeless piece. I mean if any woman has heard it would easily fit into their all time great/favourite lists. What a Song! Just love the whole classic sound and exceptionally written

Des'ree - "You gotta be" A nice little song that been popularised by various promos on TV's

Whitney Houston: I f God were a woman she would sing like her. Songs: Could I have that Kiss forvever, Always love you

Mandy Moore- Wanna be with you

Dolores O'Riordan - (Of cranberries fame) and maybe the Roxette woman(don't remember her now)

LeAnn Rimes:How do I live without you, OST -Con Air. What A Film and What a song!

Edit:

Diana King :Say a little prayer for you, Shy guy

Edit: Okay let's put Janet Jackson here. I know the whole Justin thing didn't work but she surely a star in her own right.

There are many... list seems endless of women that have reached Iconic status in Music and almost getting tired writing here..... Last mentions...Shakira, Beyonce, Christina and ah.. not sure okay maybe Britney

Look there's so much to a woman than just having her around your arms and being romantic and having here as your source of strenght. Let her loose Damn it! Shes one power house.

So Rock on Lady!
