SHARP's Quattron Technology.

SHARP Corporation, Japan demonstrates its groundbreaking Quattron quad pixel Technology. For the very first time, yellow has been added to the conventional red, green and blue color filter, enabling more colors to be displayed. Introducing never-before-seen colors to LCD TVs, like sparkling golds, Caribbean blues and sunflower yellows without over driving the panel. Sharp is redefining the way we see LED LCD TV.

Sharp’s new Quad Pixel Plus provides smooth transitions between colors by enabling shading control of up to 8 millions dots, or sub-pixels. This allows the sub-pixel to be partially illuminated or shaded, unlike traditional LCD panels. By displaying shades, a smoother-looking image with a higher perceived level of detail is possible.

The four-primary-color display employs a four color filter for the first time in the industry, that adds the color Y (yellow) to the three colors of R (Red), G (Green) and B (Blue). For the first time, this combination expands the color gamut; faithfully rendering nearly all colors that can be discerned with the unaided human eye. Quattron Technology enables the display to reproduce colors that have been difficult or impossible to portray using conventional LCD displays. When combined with Sharp?s 1080p X-Gen LCD panel, which incorporates UV2A Technology, the displays offer dramatic reduction in energy consumption compared with conventional fluorescent-backlight LCD TVs. UV2A was recently developed to enable a high aperture ratio, as well as 4-Color Technology.
