PAST WEEK NEWS THAT CAUGHT MY EYE

By: niranjan66 | Posted Sep 02, 2008 | News | 312 Views

There were three news which caught my eye during the last week, one was about a Hospital being ransacked by the relatives of a patient who died during treatment and the second was about MPEB conducting raids in posh colony of Bhopal and theft detected to the tune of more than 8 Lac, lastly the third news was about Union Minister of Power defending BHEL against Chinese companies bagging global order for equipments.

Hospitals being ransacked has become a general feature these days, people tolerance in this matter has vanished. There is so much tension in life that a major tragedy in a family sparks off retaliation to this level. Moreover belief in each other among general public has gone down to the lowest level. Whenever anybody approaches you on road seeking any information, your first reaction towards him is that he might be a thief or he might hurt you, so be careful. If you find any person on road lying on his stomach, first thought that comes into mind is that he is drug addict, although in reality he might be in trouble. During early days of drugging in train, even police used to behave very badly with the person found drugged thinking them vagabonds. It was only after this phenomena repeatedly occurred that Police started treating such case in more human way. So the point is that people should become more tolerant and be patient in their approach to any problem, rather then taking law into owns hand.

MPEB conducted raids in posh Arera colony of Bhopal and detected theft of power to the tune of 8.00 Lac, has anybody asked them, how many connection were severed. I am sure none, as all those are such powerful persons that even the raiding party do not have guts to sever their connections. MPEB treats every individual on the basis of their status. General public get their line disconnected during the visit of MPEB search party even if the last month bill only remains unpaid and these big fellows with high connections go scot free when theft is detected. So one can easily concur that why every bed room of such who’s who are installed with ACs (which are power guzzlers) and still their monthly bills average is only about a thousand rupees.

The Union Minister of Power who also takes care about BHEL visited Bhopal and expressed concern about BHEL losing global orders to Chinese companies. He recommended that global tender should have clause that participating companies should have manufacturing facility in India. My question is that when the Central PSU gets a pinch about Chinese invasion, every body opens its eyes?? Whereas the state PSUs in the telecom sector faced this invasion since last four years and nobody thought of protecting them. There was clause in tender conditions of BSNL and MTNL that participating companies should have manufacturing facility in India, these Chinese companies found a way out by tying us with local manufacturer like HFCL and Shyam telecom etc. to participate in such tenders. However there is no such arrangement by the Private Operators and so all Indian telecom equipment manufacturers are in losses and facing Order crunch, survival is at stake?? TRAI should come up with a mandatory guideline for issue of tenders by all telecom service providers that they have to procure equipments manufactured in India or Commerce Department should raise the tariff of Imported equipments to the level that they are costly as compared to those manufactured in India. This way Chinese companies will have to deliberately set up manufacturing facility in India. This will remove all anomalies and generate employment too.
