Rickshaw is one of the most important mode of transport in Mumbai, next only to local train and BEST buses. Many people depend on Rickshaw for their daily mode of transport from home to station/depot and vice versa. Getting a rickshaw during peak hours is difficult and one can often find a big queue outside railway stations for rickshaws. Some times there are no disciplined queue and one needs art and smartness to get a Rickshaw and reach their destinations.
Well,one of the most common complaints about the auto rickshaw drivers is their ability to refuse to go to certain destinations.Many people are really saddened by their so called 'Dadagiri'. In fact, in some parts of Mumbai they have their complete monopoly and they charge exorbitant fares for just a few kilometers.I think this has to stop and the RTO has to take appropriate actions against such drivers.But still, one cannot imagine Mumbai, or any other city without auto-rickshaw and they are part of the backbone of transportation in Mumbai. The auto-rickshaws are also useful during emergency and I have seen many auto-rickshaw drivers help when there is any accident and take the injured victim to the hospital.
So, the auto-rickshaw has a unique place in Mumbai and hope it stays here forever!!!!!
