MS Please Delete Fake Profiles.
Dear Friends, as we all know that fake ID’s have been around since the beginning of Internet era. The fake profiles can be found on every Internet resource where members communicate & debate with each other.
Specialists suggest that up to 90% of all fake member profiles are misleading. This type of scam is very common because creating fake identities is simple, effective and easy to get away with.
Yesterday I had telephonic talks with Mr Umesh, Paulose, Shalu & many MSian friends, regarding the fake ID’s & related topics. I am very thankful to Mr Umesh for sketching his views on Why fake ID’s ? I also appreciate his useful suggestions to ban fake profiles.
Our friend Mr Umesh has asked a very nice question, Why Fake ? Firstly we should understand why fake accounts are existing & increasing day by day on social networking sites ?
Not only MS, but most of the social networking sites like facebook, Twitter, orkut are clamping down on fake profiles, specially fake celebrity accounts.
Sometimes I seriously question myself, when I don’t find enough time to keep track of my one & only original account on MS, who has the time to create fake accounts ?
Maybe some people are just on these social networking websites to make fun & play with other people. Some people like testing and teasing each others, teasing by fake comments of fake profiles, Some like monitoring people (students, employees,) lives by fake personalities.Few like to take revenge, these are the frustrated people creating humiliating fake profiles for those who hurt them.
Some people like to push their business to grow by making it popular through multiple profiles, & some sick & stupid pointless people like to fool around.Some People create fake profiles to fan themselves and vote themselves.
Unfortunately another well-known fact is that some small social networking web sites create fake profiles to show that they have a large member database and get people use their service.
What ever may be the reason, fake profiles are not good for the smooth & successful functioning of social networking websites.
Before opening a fake profile, one should be aware that, Furnishing false details or having a false identity on the net is a punishable offence.
The minister of state in the communications and information technology ministry said recently that the existing laws will be amended to primarily fight new forms of cyber crimes like identity thefts/ false identity,video voyeurism and sexually explicit material on the net. But to tackle these bigger crimes, the government wants to make the net transparent.
“Another section would be added in the proposed Information Technology Act 2006, which would make it a punishable offence to provide any false information on the net. It will be punishable by imprisonment of up ‘to two years,” says an official at the ministry and not only this, people who use offensive language on the net can also find themselves on the wrong side of the law.
From past few months many members left MS because of the dirty comments & unwanted criticism, mostly from the fake profiles. I hope MS will take necessary steps in future to ensure that members are not insulted for their useful contributions.
I congratulate Shalu for exposing the fake ID’s on MS & thank Mouthshut management for taking necessary steps for deleting the fake profile. I sincerely request Mr Faisal & his team to kindly delete the existing fake profiles & make MS a paradise of peace, friendship & wisdom.
I further request the concerned authorities to ban the marketing firms who are creating fake users profiles to sell their products.
