What if

You wake up at morning in a distant place where nobody knows you. You forget your name? You’re unable to memorize your address, even name your home town or the names of your family members. What if we lose our identity? What would be your identity? Who you are? How could you survive on earth having no name, no tag…so unidentified?

Or what if your identity swapped with someone else? You can see another person in the mirror having your mind? What will be your reaction?

Identity is mandatory

Identity is the most integral part of our life, a must have, compulsory factor. We all have individual identities. We cannot survive without it. I will go mad without knowing who I am! I must belong to somewhere/ someone to get identified on in this big world. There must be a tag, some epithet… a byname which can indicate me.

Basic Identity

Family and friends establish your primary identity. Name is the basic identity, and then comes the surname of family. In our professional life people distinguish us by the post we hold, the job we do. In social life, relationships with others are our identity: his mother, her brother, his brother-in-law, her husband’s cousin sister etc. Hence, one must have an identity to live life & intermix in society. It is our root, our base on which we grow up, live and die – this type of identity is inherited.

Mutable Identity

When it comes to the society front, all believes their eyes to judge one’s identity. Whether you are successful faced huge failure in career, what is your bank balance, which school/college your child goes, whom you are dating recently…etc. Also people take interest in personal life to determine your identity. But these facts are inconsistent. You never know when the status changes and make the king a beggar or the same thing happens to you too.

Also your choices, beliefs, appearance, health, looks, interests, values, creations, possessions distinguish your identity – determines who you are.

Actual identity

“Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.”

The above quote is said by Oscar Wilde. And today it proves to be so true. We cannot stick to our own identity as we forget being ourselves and keep being other person from within: by obtaining their thought, dream, wish, tension or freedom and also their clothing style, their food-habit, culture etc. How much we remain ourselves? Thank God, we got the power to adjust ourselves at anywhere to our best level.

Having an identity tells your own story behind. Everyone has, still we all create our own story every day. Though we don’t live for identity or to being identified – we develop our identity, we make it.

Therefore, one must know how he/she is as a human being – what others think about him/her, because, we are social being. Being human is the first identity of us. So, folks, behave like human, think like human. Then comes all rest of the factors.

Stay identified. Stay connected. Stay blessed.

Moumita
