I have made a list of five roles in bollywood films that have made the person who played them immortal. We can not even think these characters to be played by others .Sometimes it looks that these roles were written especially for those actors and actress who played them. You may have your own opinions but below is my observations.
Guru dutt in Pyaasa -- No actors could play a role of an unsuccessful poet Vijay as Gurudutt played. Guru Dutt was said to be give this role earlier to Dalip Kumar. But after Dalip Kumar declined the role Guru Dutt himself played this role with such a performance that film became a world class classic. Imagine the song “Yeh Takthon yeh tajon yeh mahalon ki duniyan” Gurudutt on a stage saying people that he is not vijay or Vijay has died. Is any scene has written better then this yet.
Meena Kumari in Pakeeza --Pakeeza took twenty long years in making. Director Kamal amarohi has written this film for his actress wife Meenakumari . During making of the film Meena Kumari”s relationship with Kamal became good to bad and bad to worse. Meena kumara fell terribly ill and it seemed that film would never complete. But finally it completed and released. Meena kumara as a courtesan Sahib Jan gave a wonderfull performance. It was said that during the final phase of shooting Kamal has to use her body double to finish some of the scenes because of her illness. Meena kumari has not played the role but lived the role. When the film released it was declared flop in few days. However destiny has something else in his mind. Two weeks after release of Pakeeza Meena Kumari Died. After her death people poured upon cinema hall and made it a classic super hit.
Waheeda Rahman in Kabhie Kabhie -- Waheeda Rahman had not a big role to play in Kabhie Kabhie. The film was largely dominated by beautiful Rakhee and superstar Amitabhbh Bacchan with Sashi kapoor. But waheeda got the most complex role. Role of a woman divided between her family and a daughter born from an earlier affair, keeping silently a secret in his heart.
Sunny Deol in Gadar -- I am not very big fan of this movie, but the way this movie was presented, it was out and out sunny Deol film .If you keep out Sunny from the film then there is nothing left in the film. Sunny excels in all the frames whether action, immotions, drama, dialogue delivery he outshined every aspect of others. Film turned out the biggest block buster.
Madhuri Dixit in Dev Das --- This was also the most complex and expected performance. Madhuri was outstanding in this film. The way she expressed the complex emotions with her velvety voice (this voice experiment was only in this film) ,easy emotions and self respect crowd cheered in cinema hall. I saw this film only for Madhuri apart from her performance there is none I could have attracted with.
