Diamond are a girl's best friend

I dont know what attracted me to diamonds. Was it the story of Kohinoor I read in Amar Chitra Katha or was it my mother's wish to own a diamond earring someday or the tagline diamonds are girl's best friends not sure anyway I was very attracted to this beautiful stone from childhood. Reading about Kohinoor I imagined the beauty and sparkling of that diamond. There are many times I wished I could see the diamond for which wars were fought. But since it was not possible my attention went to something possible. Buy my mother a piece of diamond jewellery which she had longed for and for various family reasons she was unable to fulfill it. So when I got job and got my first salary my first thought was to buy diamond. But with my couple of months salary I was only able to buy a very small nose ring for her with a small diamond. Still that diamond earring looked very far away. But I told my mother I will buy you that earring which you want one day. So around 3-4 years passed after getting job, but diamond earring became elusive as my mother was more concerned regarding my marriage and she preferred making jewellery for my marriage than for herself. When I got married my mother's dream of diamond earrings still remained unfulfilled. Whenever I spoke to her regarding that post marriage was " See dont bother about, your husband may not like spending money on earrings for me " was her response. I didnt like that. Why cant a girl do something for her mother post marriage. I spoke to my husband regarding my mother's long cherished dream and the fact that I wanted to fulfill it. He was completely for it and we decided to give my mother a surprise. One fine day we took her to the jewellery in the pretext of taking some jewellery for me. Only when we reached there we told her we had come to buy diamond earrings for her. She at first protested, but we forced her and finally we bought a diamond earring for her. That was one of the happiest moment in my life that I could fulfill one of my mother's long cherished dreams. Yes she wears it these days proudly and even tells my daughter bought me this. Yes indeed diamonds are a girl's best friends.
