An ode to mothers who gave away their children in fight for truth

It was mother's day yesterday. Was thinking what to post. There was articles on the greatness of mother. Why mother is next to God etc etc. didnt feel that this of repeated things needs to said again and again. But I wanted to post something on this day that celebrates motherhood. It was in this thinking mode I ended up watching Mahabharata in Starplus where Draupadi tells she does not want war if her sons are going to be killed. And she ends up listening to the story of Lord Krishna in Viraat Raj Sabha. The story of Devaki who saw the brutal murder of 6 of her ofsprings and suffered herself a lot to give the world a son who will again establish dharma on earth. I have heard about the birth of Lord Krishna umpteen times. But never once had thought about the mother in Devaki who could have easily told I do not want another child after the murder of her first child by Kamsa. She would have allowed the world to go as it is and have chosen Sanyasa unable to bear the pain of losing child. But she didnt. She went through the trauma and gave birth to her 8th child whom the akashvani predicted will establish dharma. And indeed her suffering didnt go waste. Her 8th born indeed showed the world the path of dharma. He gave to the world valuable lessons on dharma by his own life which depicted dharma is over relations. If the norms of society are against dharma then that norms has to be changed. He became the change agent and gave the world the gift of Bhagavad Gita. So what does this story teaches us mothers. True it is always said that a mother cannot bear the death of her child. In the name of Mamta the mothers protect rapist, criminals of various kind. They spend time and energy trying to prove that their offspring cannot do wrong. If these mothers think about Devaki for a moment they will understand what they are doing is wrong. Mamta is fine, but it should not be to protect every act of your offspring. Then there are other class of mothers. It is good as long as someone else's son/daughter does it. But will not allow my child to take the risk. My child should be safe let someone else's child suffer. understand that unless we all give the betterment of society cannot happen. Only if each mother thinks like this then the world will become good once again. So whenever we think of overprotecting our child think of Devaki and her sacrifice. What she went through to finally get happiness and we as mothers will never be the same again.
