21-year-old Sushant Rohilla, a student of Amity Law School, committed suicide on Aug 10, allegedly because he was debarred from giving exams.

Aug 15, Amity Law School fellow Teerth Waraich tweeted against the unfair treatment of college towards Rohilla. Waraich also uploaded a screenshot of the email Rohilla sent college authorities which highlighted the reason for his low attendance - a severe foot injury. Waraich claimed that the college authorities paid no heed to Rohilla's pleas. Although 75 percent attendance is mandatory to appear for semester exams, the college has made exceptions for certain students. "They forgave attendance for Miss India contestant but killed my friend." Waraich said in his tweet.

Rohilla missed some of his classes due to extra-curricular activities, which wasn't taken into consideration by the university, said his family.

In Rohilla's email written to Amity founder, Dr Ashok Chauhan, the student wrote, "I will not be able to mentally survive this if I am debarred".

According to University authorities, only 5% concession is granted for medical leave. The Indraprastha University Registrar, SK Tanwar, said, "The University Ordinance and Bar Council guidelines for law colleges state that students must have 75% attendance for each paper. Attendance is condoned for activities like debates, moots etc," NDTV reported.

Mehak, Sushant Rohilla's sister, told NDTV, "It was only after his death that we started getting calls and messages from students and alumni of Amity saying that the college harasses students in this way. We're going to take action against the college and the University".

Students have been protesting against the authorities and have presented a manifesto to the college. Manifesto can be read here: https://twitter.com/dhichkyaoon/status/765473876017082368/photo/1
