A Dangerous Game!

We are men (read human beings). We breathe. We live. We die.

Some consider death as a great wrong meted out to human beings. Some think death is the only good that can happen to them.

I don’t know what they mean by either of the statements! I can’t concern myself with such pettiness. What I’m concerned about is how I live MY life.

Now,there have been theories, that to get a place in heaven, people should ‘commit’ a lot of good deeds, such as, loving your neighbour like you love yourself, not being selfish, thinking no bad thoughts and committing no bad deeds. And a host of other things.

Well.I don’t believe in theories. What do they do to our brain? They pre-condition it. Therefore, I ignore theories. Especially those where they tell me that I was born to do good to others and the world many services!

I disagree.

I have my reasons. When we are born, the first time we cry out is because WE are breathless and sometimes hungry. When we die, for the last few moments we try to clutch onto OUR loved ones, because we know that they won’t be there with us any more. We can’t be purer or truer than these two moments in life. We are also the most selfish at these two moments. So why pretend and put up acts about being nice and unselfish in the phase between birth and death?

Who are we trying to fool?

Instead, we should love ourselves the most. Try to make happiness in everything that we do. Create brilliance in our lives. Be selfish so that we at least would be important for ourselves, if not for anyone else. Live our lives for ourselves.

I have my reasons for this too. The moment we think that we are to serve other people, we make other peoples’ problems our own. We start to see things as we are and not as they actually are. We meddle, in the name of being selfless and helpful. And we create a society of do’s and don’ts, of ‘I know better than you’ syndrome, of ‘I’m doing this for your good’ disease!

That’s the most dangerous part - when we take moral responsibility of others!

It’s one life we get. One life to be free. One life to be happy. So why bind ourselves to others? We should say a no – to everything that’s not meant to better us and us alone. Only then will we learn to stop trespassing in others’ territories, to mind our own business, to live and let live. And there will be peace on earth.

We are men. So let us be men. We can’t play Gods. That’s a dangerous game to play!
