If I were to form the team again, I will have Hadlee, Marshal, Imran Khan, Syndey Barnes and Muralitharan as my bowlers. That would make it a good attack for any kind of track.
I will play one batsman less and expect Imran and Gilly to make handy contributions, with some strokes from... Hadlee too. That'd still be an eight batsmen long line up.Read More

Agree with you that the plot was so unreal and unconvincing. Particularly agree with this...

Thanks for your comment. Right now I am not really in a mood to defend Murali.
However as far as going by old books or great experts are concerned, I don't rely on them. Stats are hard facts. Do not get affected by subjectivity. Experts can make funny comments like Imran Khan saying that Inzamam ...is the best player of fast bowling since Viv Richards or Gavaskar saying Tendulkar is better than Greg Chappel, Viv Richards and Wally Hammonds put together. Such comments are plain laughable.
However since I wrote this review, my views are changed. I must give Imran Khan a place in top 5 instead of Tendulkar. So my top 5 will look like this now..

Haven't been visiting Mouthshut much. Whenever I do, I do check your reviews. Just couldn't help commenting on this review, the incurable romantic soul that I am :)

If they look so cute, they didn't look cute as pals. Atleast 2 guys as pals don't look cute to me.

Secondly, is there any harm in feeling for your friend. What is so holy about 'just' friendship? If I begin feeling for someone with whom I have always pretended to be just friends, have I made something unholy? On the contrary I feel I have given her the best compliment by desiring to be more and more with her. As long as I admire her as a friend (honestly I don't know what I mean by admiring as a friend) that compliment is incomplete.

I just finished reading Gone with the wind and then I came to know that there is sequeal but written by a different author...which kind of discourages me to pick it up. Hunted for its review and found yours :) But as I was reading it you seemed to be revealing a lot so I have not rea...d through completely....

Different beliefs work for different people...
To me 'love' is just a 4 letter word...and this word is impotent...what is potent is one's feelings...the question 'Am I in love?' is futile...I never ask that to myself and ofcourse never to someone else...All I ask myself is...'How ba...dly I want something...and how well prepared I am for this...'
Words like 'love', 'infatuation' etc are countably finite...feelings have infinite shades...so why is it so important to know which word describes my feelings the best...
May be what one defines as love is impossible to me...so am I not allowed the pleasure of fancying myself in love? After all, the purpose the word 'love' serves is that it gives one pleasure to think...'I am in love!!!'
ofcourse different beliefs work for different people and my belief is ditch the words judge the feelings...Anyway hopefully that is all from my side on the subject...no more bugging you...:)

So infatuation doesn't last long....
OK...what my concern is how can one judge for oneself whether his feelings are love or infatuation (its of no use whatsoever to judge for someone else)...so for how long should one wait for his feelings to subside before deciding that he is in love...and what ...is the gaurantee that after expiry of that period the feelings will last forever?? Its like you don't know if a glass pane is breakable or not untill it actually breaks..but once broken whats the use of the knowledge obtained...
So what good are theoritical differences between 'love' and 'infatuation' if there aint a way to judge for oneself beforehand?? A person never labels his/her current relationship as mere attraction...one feels so only about one's past feelings...
I always tell people that difference between love and infatuation is of belief, its in your mind...its love only as long as you like to think its love...
a 20 year old boy falling for 30 year old lady...infatuation right?? a 26 year old meeting a 24 year old girl through their parents...bang!! cupid has struck...thats true love..right?? why?? because they can get married and live happily ever after?? I wonder what distinguishes true love from un-true love...
Anyway these are just abstract theories...and what good is a theory if there ain't a real circumstance to apply it on...

Hmm...on face of it that should be intuitively obvious without calling for any supportive arguments...but then there is that feeling...Am I the only one left out...and it can kill...

I could never figure out how everyone... seems to know the difference between true love and un-true love...only I don't have the slightest idea...I mean is 'true love' a disease that can be diagonsed by observing certain symptoms? For that matter how can 'love' and infatuation be differentiated...all I know is I feel something...all it requires is my rationale to judge what I want to do with my feelings...then what does one mean when he tells me that I am not in love but only infatuated...
Nice review...you have made a stronger statement that the movie could...

Totally agree with - love yourself first, more than anybody can love you...In any case its a myth that one can love someone more than one's own self...You can dettach yourself with anything and anybody including your lover, but not your mind and body...
Punishing oneself for someone else's mistak...e is a big big crime...Also I feel breaking hearts is a sin...equally big sin is to let someone break your heart...
And I often tell people that if you loath physical lust all the time...what will you think of emotional lust...The desire to be loved when you haevn't done anything to deserve it...
Looks like an interesting book....gotta get hold of this one....

You seem to remember so much of Wasim...awsome!! Wasim looked like an artist...looked in complete control of his game...he was a legend....
Though you know that I feel he is over rated :) I rate Marshall, Hadlee, Trueman, Ambrose etc above him. Neverthless, its a crime to compare t...he greats...but one reason why I have little dislike for him is that he ruined Waqar's career who could have been another one running after the world record along with Murali and Warne....

Chukers, I reckon don't get extra spin but they only provide it sufficient pace to allow the ball travel, i.e. when talking of finger spinners. Spin is generated by the fingers and not the elbow. Murali's extra spin is d...ue to his helicopter wrist and not because of the bend in his elbow. Case of Bedi and Warne is different, they were wrist spinners.
And again I wont mind if chucking helps the flippers, the question is what do you want to prevent by prohibiting chucking. I personally want to prevent only sudden faster ones and the bouncers. For every thing else I want the batsman to be prepared. And don't you think more than half of the finger spinners will sit out if the rule sustains?
Yes, Hadlee got 400 wickets in lesser number of deliveries but spinners never have strike rates comparable to quicks and wicket/match ratio becomes an important parameter because spinners can bowl longer spells. Murali's strike rate is better than Warney's and particularly in last 5 years, his strike rate has been as good as Curtley Ambrose's. In ODI's Murali gives away 0.5 runs less per over than Warney.

Munir: I am an obsessed fan of Sachin. I will fight till death with someone who suggests that Sachin doesn't win matches :) But there is a truth that I realize, When Murali retires he will hold every single bowling record whereas the batting records will be shared between Sahin Tendulkar, Brian Lara..., Viv Richards and Don Bradman. Thanks for your comments.
Dil Hindustani: Well many people claim Warne has taken wickets on all pitches, but he hasn't put the Indians in much trouble, wheares I observe even Sachin is clueless against Murali, he only sweeps him wheareas all good batsmen are able to use feet affectively against Warney. Also see the fact that Murali so often bowls the batsmen out.Warney is a legend neverthless.
Dr. Shafique: Yes, this rule is blindly followed. If you ask me I won't mind a bowler bending his arm by 45 degrees as long as he bowls at a pace lower than 100 kmph.
Anuj: Yeah, Aussies seem to have lot of trouble with Murali. And the ball of the century, well I think Murali's Doosra that uproots the wickets leave the left-handed batsmen completely clueless is far more lethal as it turns in front of the batsman. I can remember Wasim getting out bowled in ICC trophy 2002, the ball pierced thru his forward defence.Read More

S. Barnes in place of Warne. Agreed, even I felt after completing the review that I should have better picked Barnes, he was far more incisive.
Imran Khan - Well I will rather bring in ...a specialist fast bowler like Marshall-whom you have dropped-than Imran. When forming an elven from all cricketers in the history, I don't see a plcae for an all-rounder. I will stick with specialists. If they can contribute in more than one department thats great, like Hadlee and Sobers but they primarily picked coz they are good enuf to be picked up on their bowling and batting abilities (respectively) alone.
Lohman is a good choice, but then the reason I did not consider him was that he played in an era when cricket used to be bowlers' feast. There are quite a few bowlers who played in 1800's and early 1900's and had terrific strike rate and averages of under 20. So if you insist on playing an extra bowler, I will probably pick Lilee. Lohman, may be is as good a choice as Lilee. Tough call.
Pollock in place of Sachin - fair enough. When it comes to Sachin I am a little biased :-)
Gilchrist - well I want to see the best of all skills. So I can't pick him. It has to be Knott or may be G. Evans.
Briefly, I will accept your XI with 2 changes, Marshall in place of either Imran or Lohman and Knott in place of Gilchrist.

I am becomnig less active here on Mouthshut coz it has lost its charm. And comment sections are probably most repsonsible. you will take this as a criticism to your style but what is this bahiya-didi, my girlfriend, your husband going on here? makes me sick. And I must say you have to ...take a lot of blame for the way comments are being written these days. Real sad this place is becoming....
As for personal comments and fights...well don't blame people who make personal attacks against those who fill their reviews with all sort of personal stories. They are themsleves inviting personal comments. Now we know the names of girlfriends of many members. where is their a possibility of not making personal comments to those people? They are throwing themselves at the mercy of any stranger who reads what they write.
And by the way, 'you are a great friend' is also a personal remark and is as inappropriate as the comment 'you look ugly'. Come on M2Ms hain na!!!
This place is growing sicker day by day...unless things start changing soon I shall probably stop visiting mouthshut...

Late to read and comment this review. But trust me I am pissed off reading those excessively personal stories. My girlfriend loves so much and blah blah....owing to this kind of stuff my activities on MS are reduced.
Don't know if you ever noticed my presence or not but you stood for the same ide...a that I pursue...in this review and before this too through your comments.
Trust me this place is becoming rotten. People like amjad_maruf, vivekbp, balaji, spookay, suyog, lavagopal and many others are no more active :-(

I have been strongly recommeded this book by a friend of mine and am planning to pick it up as soon as I finish the book currently I am reading these days (which is Jane Asten's Sense and sensibility) Your review reinforced my resolve :-)
And you are true about comparisions...even I suffe...r a lot due to that..especially recently. And am badly disappointed with myself for drawing such comparisions...as this is principally against by rules...which you can imagine coz u call me Roark :-)

Hi...Didn't exactly think this way when watching the movie...for the most part I was absoarbed in the memories of the book P&P that the movie was evoking. But yes you raise valid points. The movie doesn't put up a very good image of our country. However as for Image No. 1. I feel you are being l...ittle bit harsh. Ms. Bakshi was only the character of Ms. Bennet reproduced. But that she is looking for grooms settled abroad for her daughters instead of just rich was an unfortunate addition.
