Legal intentions--of a review

The purpose of a review

For some writing is a habit while others do it for fun. It can be a custom for many while a few may write out of compulsion/passion. Whatever the reason writing is a Childs play.

Yes, writing is that easy. It is as simple as talking. Yet there are different categories of it. As such there are writers of different categories holding different expertise in their zones. This kind of writing is not as simple as the writers belong to a different genre, have a different style and purpose.

A reviewer belongs to this category. He is not simply writing but displaying his expertise in sharing information useful for others. Writing an effective review is not at all difficult provided the writer follows some guidelines. The basic essence of all reviews is the information they share about a product. Here the honesty and precision matter more than anything else.

The honesty matters more than the writing skills. In all reviews the reader wants to know why the reviewer likes or dislikes the product reviewed and thus would prefer to have a precise (at MS we have the liberty of writing to our hearts content….well almost) account of the reviewers personal details.

Reviews besides being honest should be straight from the heart but not too personal.Always focus on the product and not on your personal life.

Every reviewer should keep a check on his audience and from time to time alter the content. At MS most of the reviewers are written for a particular set of audience and the readers/raters are mostly regular. However it should be kept in mind that there are many more who are accessing our reviews but not rating as such getting too personal is one tactics one should avoid.

At MS each reviewer is an expert writer….no second thoughts about it. However the reviewer should take care and avoid the display of excessive creative writing. The reader neither has the time nor the patience to read between the lines amid the plethora of adjectives and metaphors that the creative writers indulge in. As it is with most CRs they carry on and on and on…….

Writing reviews need little expertise. The review besides having a structure and design should be written in a plain language —so that the reader is able to grasp it immediately. Thus preparation, presentation and assessment of the final product are entirely and equally important.

Reviewers should never underestimate their readers. The reviews are written with the single intention of informing. Readers are the recipient of this information, without readers the value of the review is null.

Before starting a review one should keep in mind,

1. The purpose of my review,

  1. Who are the readers,

  2. Why do I want to share this information,

  3. How am I going to handle the feedback?

All reviews can start with an introduction informing the readers what to expect and what the review is all about. In the middle the reviewer would let the reader know what he wants them to know. And in the end a summary of the review would just be fine. Thus a review can have;

1. An Introduction,

  1. Body and

  2. Summary.

The review should be free of incessant beating around the bush, excess statistical details, inappropriate and overuse of creativity. Content though the king for all reviews has to be in balanced proportions. Here precision and honesty matter more.

PS: All reviews should be written with some creativity sprinkled on it. Creativity obviously makes the review look more glamourous and likeable. This way a review is saved from being stereotypical.Yet creativity for some means endless bantering of personal details.Which at all costs should be avoided.

Happy reviewing.
