?I can?t sleep!?


I sit up, open the window and stare at the stars outside.


What?s the problem with me? The whole world is sleeping and all I can do is stare at the clock as the minutes tick by. I?m feeling anxious and worried since I have to wake up really early the next day.


?You are insomniac? A friend tells me.


Insomnia? Sounds like a disease. And I am too healthy to have such strange sounding maladies.


Agreed that I have an overanalytical and overactive mind. Thousand ideas are always jumping in my head and it?s so difficult to close my eyes, relax and sleep. And yes, once I do sleep, then it?s very difficult to wake up, especially in the early hours.

An owl?


All humans can be divided into two types: Owls and Larks.


The owls are the ones who enjoy staying up long past midnight and waking up real late too. You will see them, alert and excited about a new idea way into the night. But come morning, and they refuse to wake up and glare grumpily at everyone if they are forced to get out of bed. Larks are the types who will jump out of bed wide-eyed on an unearthly hour of morning but they prefer going to bed early too. For larks, 11 P.M. is really late while for owls, the fun has just begun at that hour.


So I am an owl. The question is: how should owls turn into larks? Especially if they have to send their kids to school and reach their working places in the early hours?


I figured out how. And lemme share my tips with my friends who may be facing the same problems:

Wake up early


-


Set the alarm at 5.30 AM, open those sleepy eyes and keep them open. Haul yourself from the warm bed and stand up. Grab a cup of hot coffee. It may be very tough in the initial days, but as time goes by, your mind and body will get adjusted to this new scheme of things. Before you know, you will start waking up on your own at the same time every day even without that shrill alarm going off.

Hard work


-


Work really, really hard. Get busy and don?t leave a moment to laze around. Hard work is like a drug and it can sedate you at the end of the day like nothing else can. The moment you will hit the bed, you will be in the land of the nod.

Night-time routine


-


The day has ended. Change into your night clothes, dim the lights, grab a book(not an exciting bestseller), a glass of warm milk in your hand and gently, sleep off. Milk can comfort you, caress your troubled soul and act as a balm to your anxieties. Also, this routine will be a signal to your active body to slow down and start unwinding. Avoid all phone calls which may have the power to annoy or worry you.

Someone who loves you


-


Try sleeping with some one who really loves you and see how fast your eyes will close. There is a sense of security and warmth when someone puts a loving arm around you. Feeling utterly loved and cherished is so heavenly that sleep loves to knock on your door.
