There are several volumes of The Book of Lists; three were published in the late 1970's and and early 1980's, while a fourth was published in the 1990's. All are tremendous sources of trivia. All the books follow the same format: the various lists are divided into chapters by topic. Thus, all th...Read more

At least in the United States, it's called All Creatures Great and Small, and it is the first in a series of four books. The others are All Things Bright and Beautiful, All Things Wise and Wonderful, and The Lord God Made Them All. The titles are all verses from the Doxology, a hymn. The four bo...Read more

The Hobbit is sometimes described as a prelude to Lord of the Rings, and it does indeed introduce characters and places that later appear in that epic. But it can enjoyed as a stand-alone, and was in fact written almost 20 years earlier.
A bare-bones description of the plot makes it sound alm...Read more

Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass is an autobiography written when the author was only 27 or 28 years old-- but at that age he was already considered an up-and-coming figure in the United States' Abolitionist Movement, so called because its goal was to eradicate slavery within the U.S....Read more

Pity Harry Potter. He is not having a good year. Tell more about the basic plot, setting, characters, etc.
Mention that this is a classic of English literature.
You are right in that it was inspired by an actual event-- and good for you for mentioning that.

...is that it is only as good as the contestants.
Season 4 worked, because the contestants were actually likeable, interesting, and reasonably intelligent, for the most part.
But the last two Seasons were populated largely by whiny idiots. Come on, were Brian and Jenna REALLY the best Survivo...rs? No, they were just a pair of pretty faces who were slightly smarter and considerably luckier than the folks around them. And the women, Season 6, were mostly pathetic, in my opinion.
Here's hoping Season 7 improves. Read More

.. I spotted a mistake. It was SARUMAN, who was defeated in 'The Two Towers', not Sauron.
And you might not want to give away the fact that he was defeated, either, as that's a fairly important plot point. Say, instead, that they confront him or something.

Okay, you don't like sequels in general, and you didn't like the movie. Now, WHY didn't you like the movie? Was it the plot, the acting, the F/X that you didn't like? It's knowing such details that help people decide whether they want to see a movie.

X-Men 2 has a number of traits distinguishing it from other superhero movies. First off, it's an ensemble piece about an entire team, rather than a single hero. Also, like the comic, it is an allegory about adolescence and prejudice. In the world of X-Men 2, mutants develop their powers as they ...Read more
