Bollywood has been ripping off hollywood hits for a while now. I'm sure they worked back in the day, but its different now. Movie lovers are more connected to the west and have easy access to hollywood flicks than before. So a hollywood rip-off gets easily detected on the radar. Not that its ...Read more

I think this movie is a very smart portrayal of modern-day devdas, hence the name DevD (ofcourse they couldnt release another movie by the name devdas, gotta give it a modern twist). The story references the old school devdas story but in a new-age environment. A careless rich boy loses his childhoo...d love due to arrogance/ ego/ mis-communication and turns to alcohol. Nothing unusual with that, men seem to do that a lot in real life. Alcohol and easy access to money leads to drugs, still nothing unusual, happens in real life. Movie shows a guy who is fighting hard to forget his past, using all the wrong means, or should i say, using the only means he knows, but then at the same time, he cant let the past go and still thinks there's a possibility to get his love back. I'm sure every normal person going through that would think the same. I think where a lot of viewers draw their conclusion is when they compare this version to the old SRK hit devdas. Sure, the SRK starrer was a really good movie, but you gotta remember that it was staged back in the 50's or 60's or whenever devdas was alive, whereas devD is staged in the modern day scenario. When SRK turned to a prostitute in the old version, i didnt hear anyone protesting that the movie promoted prostitution or alcohol abuse. And i dont think devD promotes any of that either, specially after showing the mess the guy makes out of his otherwise 'could have been a lot better' life. Just shows he made one wrong decision after another, and i would expect it to send a message to others to not to follow on his steps, rather than promote it. All in all, a good watch, definitely different from the otherwise predictable bollywood movies. I can usually guess what a hindi movie is going to end or if it is a hollywood ripoff in the first 10 minutes, they are so painfully predictable. DevD kept me guessing and delivered one shock after the other. Some pretty good tracks too, Nayan tarse and Pardesi, my favs.Read More

haha, 'Naa Dekhen Zara'... good one, goes perfectly with the movie. Whats up with bollywood venturing into sci-fi genre, i mean its not that i dont mind sci-fi fantasy genre, but you have to have a good story base to start off with. So a camera that shows the future , ok i can deal with that. But yo...u need decent acting and direction to go with the idea. And it amazes me how the villains always pop up every-where already knowing about the magical gift, as if they're psychic. Could have been better with better direction and decent transition.Read More

Butterfly Effect ripoff, thats what i have to say. So the concept of going into the past through a picture sounds familiar, mustve been already used in a hollywood movie i bet, but the final twist of an evil twin, wtf was that all about. I was already laughing at the crappy story line but that extra... twist sent me crying with laughter, but i could have easily guessed it, as predictable hindi movies are getting. Waste of time and akshay's talent.Read More

There was in incident at HEathrow, where an elder person was travelling with is granddaughter, and due to some system glitch, they couldnt find the child's booking for the heathrow-vancouver leg, even though she had a boarding pass. I tried helping the poor guy out as he couldnt speak much english..., but the staff basically wanted him to buy a new ticket and sort out the mess once he got to vancouver. Dont know how it ended up as i was hurried onto the plane by the staff but the on-the-spot ticket they could issue was going to cost them $2400... poor guy, i could make 2 return trips for that much.Read More

Polluted it is, and it can get really crowded in some parts of the city too. Mostly due to the rapid industrialization of the city in the last 10 years. Seems to me, the city is building inwards faster than it is expanding outwards. Specially the area arround gurdawara that you visited, close to r...ailway station... called the Old town, thats one of the most congested and thus, polluted area of the city. I try to stay clear of that part when i'm there.Read More

There is a lot of good talent out there other than english lads. Its a good thing that Arsenal gives chance to a lot of international players, rather than sticking with English guys. Most other teams in English Premiere League have only a handful of big name players from around the world (which they... obviously have to make a name on the international level before any english team would consider them). It's not like Arsenal are not as good as ManU or Chelsea. They are as good as any other team out there. they were actually right behind ManU this year in the champions league. Too bad for eduardo's injury. That shaked the whole team up pretty bad. They'll make a come-back, no doubt about that.Read More

I second that. The guy should stick to singing. Acting is not his game. Its hard to think of stardom when the guy can't even have a different expression on his face, same expression in every scene. It cracks me up when he makes this face when he starts singing. Sorta like someone punched him in the ...back.
