It's my opinion. I am not writing a research paper that I need to give links citing accurate sources to Mayan civilization and its beliefs. I never professed myself an expert in Mayan culture. I have a decent knowledge of Mayan culture and what I saw was clear degradation of what they professed/prac...tised. While I would want to get defensive, I feel that your points are too aggressive to even warrant a proper answer. Almost all the actors being of Mayan descent does not make the movie an authentic representation of their culture. I stand by my views because I believe I have a decent understanding of the Mayan civilization. 'Whatever he got in this story is from the mayans themselves.' is your take. by the lines of your comment, do you have proof of the same? Please don't make such a fetching display of your ignorance and lack of rationalityRead More

I did not choose my songs based on singers. I chose them on the basis of their music. I am sorry your 'great' Rafi did not figure in this list. If this was a review of the great singers of bollywood, he would definitely have figured. I appreciate comments, but not those which are made withou...t understanding the topic.Read More

Yes, it's quite possible to disagree with me on the second half because I rather had a feeling that what the movie promised in the first half in terms of story-telling was lost in the speech and the ending scenes. The reason for me not liking Meenu as a separate character just to show Guru's sof...ter side, is because the director did NOT try hard to show it the cinematic way. The cinematic way would have been to show a development of the character of Meenu and the relationship with Guru. Anyhow, that's again just my opinion.Read More

As I said in the movie, this is not a bad movie. I felt the movie degenerated into typical bollywood melodrama in several parts in the second half of the movie. And the fact is that I appreciated the fact that the Guru is shown in a negative light; but all said and done, the speech in the end was do...wnright stupid. :) Of course, it's quite possible that we disagree, just like we did on RDB. :DRead More

Do see the movie, it's worth at least two dekkos.

The ending killed the movie, in my opinion. Thanks for commenting.

Yes, you echo my thoughts exactly... Yes, I too loved the movie, but not as a classic.

Yes, I expected this comment after Sanjoy told me about his disagreements. As I told MZ, I am really not sure if it's a guy thing, but yes, I didn't find the gay angle probable, although I am not very sure if such things happen or Don't happen. Well, again, one should just tell Mr. Rampal, Ms. P...atel and Ms. Lamba to try their talents elsewhere... Thanks for commenting...Read More

Well, I am not sure if it's a guy thing to find it offensive that a gay husband was NOT happy with his marriage. But yes, I didn't find the movie as entertaining as it should have been. :)

Before the long weekend, here’s yet another review on a movie which I distinctly enjoyed in parts. Guru is a simple movie, the second half of which makes you feel that Mani Ratnam lost his script and thus, made a hash of it. The first half is excellent, the role of Mallika Sherawat as a belly...Read more

Thanks for the comment. KK is a terrific actor and I do agree that their dialogues are much better than what the rest of the film offers. Yes, if you don't care for logic and are OK with century-old views on homosexuality, it's kinda OK :)

Thank you for your comments. It's not a terribly bad movie as the review would suggest, but not good value for money either

Good movies are all alike, bad movies are bad in their own special way. Honeymoon Travels is not a good movie at all; compared to the tripe that Bollywood dishes out daily, it might seem good, but comparative analogies rarely define absolute quality. Re-phrasing what Ian Botham once said about P...Read more

Salil-da has been sort of a mentor in my musical career, and it's refreshing to see people writing with a passion about this forgotten genius. Interestingly though, most of your opinion on Salil is formulated on his Hindi numbers. Salil-da's Bengali compositions are in a very different mould alt...ogether, the reason for that being he was the lyricist of the songs as well. It's interesting listening to the lyrics of the songs and understanding his deeply sympathetic and compassionate nature towards people and life in general. On the same note, taking from two of your favorite songs: 'Kahin door jab din dhal jaye', was initially composed in Bengali 'Amay proshno kore', and it's really lovely to note that the same melody can inspire totally contrary feelings in both the languages. Lovely review. Incidentally, this topic was the first topic on which I wrote in mouthshut, so have a sort of a special bond with this ...Read More

I wish you guys wouldn't act holier than thou and present Chappell as the messiah for Indian cricket. His job was to coach the team well, which he failed in, and thankfully he has realized that failures lead to heads rolling... Secondly, Chappell said before the world cup: 'I am happy with the te...am. Things are shaping up well.' Remember this was after the series win India had at home, and everything is hunky dory. Is it strange that he chooses an opportune time after the World Cup to relay an SMS which he 'supposedly' sent to his esteemed journalist friend? Foot in the mouth syndrome? I think so.Read More

We should stop seeing these movies, but I wanted to like Nishabd, if not for the old Bheejoy, at least for Jiah... Now, I shall make it a point to see good movies (ONLY)
