shyam, Maybe we should opt for compulsary military training for civilians like some other nations do. The government could ask for less of our money (taxes- because am sure it only goes to fill the pockets of a select few, and certainly towards any common good ) and for more of our labour/spirit.... For all you know, maybe this would provide a feeling of better brother.sisterhood among us. Maybe some of us might find it difficult to pull the trigger on someone, even in a terror crisis but we could always help in a million other ways. After all the military doesn't just have sharp shooters, does it?Read More

Sigh! You write a review that makes me go green like the sea (at times) and make me want to go too...never mind cupboard doors that open, shut, open, shut (ROFL) and the 27K (if one is free, you mean me and Hub can go for just 27K? sonny boy is a baby, isn't he?) and then you cap it all by summin...g up that its not suited for families with small kids! Very bad of you, Shanti! wonderful straight-from-the-heart review as always.. :-)Read More

Lol ROFL ROFLMAO..... It would indeed have been a serious loss if I had missed this review of yours. I nearly guffawed at the sign posts one. Poor forlorn Forla ROFL. All of them were gems. Jugaad... Dunno but generally we have this saying 'kuch jugaad karna padega'which is mostly when something... goes wrong and has to be covered up. Makes me wonder about those jugaad's!!??? Going to a Dhaba in a jugaad cannot compare with anything else. Howlarious review, one of your best!Read More

Hey! So you're still alive and kicking! :-D And tickling people's ribs while you're about it. Too bad the movie turned out to be a Nay Nay,her smile alone (and maybe other stuff as well;-))was enough to bring the crowds in droves, if only the story had been better... But like you said somewhe...re in those zillions of comments, she still is one of myfavourite Bollywood heroines too.Read More

Sanjoy, I did start reading it, but I'd rather watch it and then come back to read and comment. Somehow, nothing seems alright without Agastya. Going to pick him up this weekend, will watch the movie with him. :-)

Shant! Nice review. It is a regret of mine too that I don't read Mallu books with the enjoyment that I find in English. Whew! Translated by a 15 yr old??!! Wow!! WOW!!!! (Wonder how that kid's mother feels...) After reading Jeeva's comment too on the Sivanadiyar, am now very curious as t...o what the whole story is. Think I will get this from somewhere... Where did u say you found the translation..? Am familiar with Kalki and Ponniyin Selvam from Boo's writings. :-) Read her Indian Writing tag. She's given some other Tamil classics too. Keep writing... and do your homework too :-D ;-p .Read More

Sudipto, that was SUCH a nice gesture from the heart. Having lost my father 4 yrs back, I still haven't reconciled myself to his absence. And while I would love for my Mom to stay with me permanently, she is attached to her house and friends back home in Kerala, and only comes to visit me every now... and then. Yet in times of sickness and health, joy and sorrow, we get together, and the bond is as strong as if we were staying together. Most times, I wish we were staying in one city, so that we could hop across just like that... but... we earn in B'lore while my Mom and in-laws are in Kerala.... and so catching up with the old folks happens more often over the telephone, with visits being just once a month or so.Read More

LOLOLOLOL No, I don't think mallus would watch Polanski on the bus either. You mean man! I meant the Shahid Kapur flick- horrendously humorous it was! But since I could lift eyebrows and roll eyes at the husband in between, it was quite funny and bearable in parts. Regarding Fe'ism- a man has to h...ave some respite sometimes, doesn't he? ;-) lolRead More

I take one day off, and you are inundated with comments! Ah, have to put up with this as its standard procedure by now. Finally a wonderful review on a decent (going by your review) movie, that I feel motivated to watch. I love mysteries (Agatha Christie being my favourite) and the darker and m...urkier, the better. Your review has made me quite curious, but don't think I can catch the theatre- will have to wait for the DVD. Btw, where does China town figure? Is it similar? I found China Town a laugh riot, tho' if I'd seen it in the theatre, I would have not found it so funny. Saw it on a bus to Kerala and thoroughly enjoyed it!Read More

I haven't seen the movie, but I read the book and I loved it. Francesca and Robert took you along with them on their love story- you danced with them and got swept away with them, and the parting was as hard on you as on them... but I for one, don't wish for it to have ended otherwise. Some things... are just meant to be... or... just NOT meant to be. Lovely review of the movie.Read More
