Reported nausea... Priya, Some viewers said the shaky movements of the handheld camera made them nauseous. Did you feel any? Uma

Hi Smitha, Good review as usual. I haven't read this book per se, but would like to say that most child prodigies unfortunately get pushed towards success, either by parents or by mentors/trainers. It is sad but can't be helped I guess. Another interesting thing about gifted kids is that most of t...hem lose their skills once they enter adult hood. There are of course exceptions to this, one example being our very own Shakuntala Devi. Why do you think some of the gifted kids die prematurely? Pascal died at 39, Johann Philipp Baratier (a prodigy of 18th century) died at 19. Is it the extreme labor that they put up in order to achieve the enhanced (for their age) goals? I wonder... It is very sad to know that in this day and age of extreme competition, some parents are forced (??) to pressure their child to achieve success. UmaRead More

Ava ji! I live in the US and there is only one Indian movie theater where I stay. These theaters play star-studded, well promoted films on the screens most of the time. That is to say that chotte banner waale films dikhaate nahin hain. :( So will have to wait for the DVD. Uma

Doc!! A touching letter..er.. revu! I completely agree with Walker's comments. I'd also like to bring up the q'n 'why you haven't included the scenario of the elderly father visiting his son and family living abroad?' A lot of parents after retirement spend 6months abroad with their children and 6m...onths in India by themselves. Some parents themselves would want their kids to go abroad in the first place. I agree that caring for parents when they are old is a definite duty of any kid, son or daughter. Having said that, caring for them just does not mean 'staying' with them. There are many families who live apart but are still close and then there are many families that live 'together' but squabble over petty things. In an ideal world 'parental love would be un-conditional and child's love would also be un-conditional.' Unfortunately, we dont' live in an ideal world and so most of the time, love from one side is conditional (money, status, success etc.) if not from both sides in some extreme cases. Just my thoughts... UmaRead More

Hi Smitha, Good review again! I've never read anything by Chitra Banerjee, but your revu makes me want to read this one. I'm a sucker for short story collections and this one seems to be a good one with a nice positive message. Life is nothing but a series of errors?? Hmm...Debatable. LOL. Uma

Hi Ratna!!!!!!!!! Late but made it huh? Thanks for the comment. I agree that it will have to be a neverending list if one sat down to make a list of best songs with all the three singers i.e. Rafi, Kishore or Mukesh. I like the songs you have picked out too. There is another one of his (I'm not ...sure of the movie though) that goes 'Tara Toote duniya dekhe, dekha na kisne dil toot gaya.' I think the USP of this one is it is very underrated. Hi Shanti!!!!!!!!!! Here you are!! Thanks a lot for the RRC. I agree with you on Mukesh's voice. There is simply so much pain/dard in it, that I sometimes feel that he doesn't even have to try to sound sad. I like Zubaan pe Dard Bhari a lot too. In the picturization I like all those curtains/dr...apes blowing in the wind, kind'a adding to the doom mood of the song. Beating others Ke Baare Mein, Ek Chotti Si Break Le Rahi Hoon...He heh..;) UmaRead More

Hi Dove Eye!! Thanks a lot for the RRC!! I like the song 'Dil Se Tujhko Bedili Hai Mujhko Hai Dil Ka Guroor Tu Yeh Maane Ya Na Maane Log Maanenge Zaroor' a lot too. Are there two versions of this number?? Uma

Hi Ratna!! Manzilein apni jagah and chalte chalte are two of his songs that I like best. He was actually very talented but got ruined after his 'disco' phase I think. For some reason I find most of his later numbers to be unnecessarily loud. Good review as usual... A good job done in filtering ...these good numbers out of a lot of junk that he composed and/or sang. I also like the middle part of the Sharaabi song 'Mujhe Naulaka Mangade re' where on screen Big B sings 'Nashe mein kaun nahin hain mujhe bataao zara, jo hain hosh mein mere saamne lao to zara' and then 'nasha sharaab mein hota to naachti botal...' Was this also composed by Bappi?? UmaRead More

Hi Sarav, This is the FIRST time you have visited my space. Thanks a lot! and thanks for the RRC! Mukesh's voice is a deep baritone and I think it is best suited for sad songs. But then I LOVE sad songs. so, heh heh ;) Yeah, the song 'kahi karti hogi woh mera intezaar' I think originally was ...sung by Mukesh and featured in the film 'Phir Kab Milogi' released in 1974. I until now wasn't aware that there was a remix of it doing rounds. Will checkout ur revu definitely... UmaRead More

Hi Amit, This is the very FIRST time that I'm seeing you in my space. WELCOME!! Thanks for the RRC! Now about coming out of the bricbats mode is psst...pststt...secret 'I was nearing a 'burn out' of sorts and desperately needed to change topics' LOL. :)) The reason I said they weren't popula...r is because I havne't included some of the super-hits of Mukesh in this revu, plus a few songs in my list such as 'Woh tere pyaar ka ghum' and 'jis dil mein basa tha pyar tera' are not widely known except for Mukesh fans. Keep in touch! UmaRead More

Hi Thakurman!! Thanks a lot for the RRC!! Like Main_Chup said, 'yeh reshmi zulfein' is a Rafi song and not Mukesh's, but yes its very very romantic!! ;) Kishore and his 'ooohhoo hoo''s are in a league of their own. He singing was extremely spontaneous and he was much more versatile than Mukesh ...too. I like his songs a lot. UmaRead More

Hi Ava!!!!! Thanks for being the first one to read, rate and comment! Between Rafi and Mukesh, Rafi had a much wider range of tones in singing. Much somehow Mukesh's voice always draws me closer. ;) Yeah, those days the lyrics were so meaningful and used a lot of Urdu words too, which makes the ...songs more melodious somehow. Now a days, the lyrics are just a bunch of rhyming words that are put together; and the music is copied from some other song. :P I wonder why they don't make songs with good music direction + good lyrics + good singers. It's really a small thing to ask, considering how big our Bollywood industry is. UmaRead More

I would like to include many more songs of Mukesh here, but I'm already above the word limit. I MUST mention that there are MANY different numbers sung by him that are far superior to the ones that I have mentioned in this review. I must emphasize again as I did in the beginning of this review that... I tried NOT to include the ones that are more popular and so would be present in other members' reviews.Read More

11. Mere Toote Hue Dil Se Koi To Aaj Yeh Pooche Ke Tera Haal Kya Hain Ke Tera Haal Kya Hain Someone ask my broken heart about its state! An extremely short expression to say that one is inconsolable. Mukesh’s voice makes these lyrics rise above any ordinary sad cry. Maangi Mohabbat ...Paayee Judaai, Duniyaa Mujhko Raas Na Aayi Pehle Kadam Par Thokar Khaaii Sadaa Aazaad Rehate The Humein Maaluum Hii Kya Tha Mohabbat Kya Balaa Hain “I asked for love and instead got parting. This world did not suit me; I fell down on the first step that I took. I always used to be free, what did I know at the time what a calamity love was?” Film: Chhalia (1960) Lyrics composed by Qamar Jalalabadi. Music composed by Kalyanji Anandji.Read More

10. Koi Jab Tumhara Hriday Tod De Tadapta Hua Jab Koi Chod De Tab Tum Mere Paas Aana Priye Mera Ghar Khula Hain Khula Hi Rahega Tumhare Liye This is one song that I personally feel is the epitome of complete acceptance in love and of compassion. “If ever someone breaks your hear...t and leaves you to suffer, come to me, my house is open for you now and would be always.” Film: Purab Aur Paschhim (1970) Lyrics composed by Indeevar.
