I have been driving a Honda City 1.3 L car for nearly 5 years. Brought this car in January 2002. This is the old model that has since been discontinued and no longer sold in India. People whom I talk to love the car - they say it looks stately. I am planning to dispose it off in January and take on a new car. Although I have not talked bout it, already 5 people have approached me and asked me to sell the car to them. I think there is still a big demand for this particular model as it has some unique features / plusses that I detail below..
My car has virtually never given me trouble. Although I have given it trouble by driving a little carelessly once in a while and running over the infamous potholes of Mumbai and bumping into other vehicles a few times. I have also given it trouble by parking it on the road and allowing little children to scratch it with sharp instruments for fun. But I have also taken good care of my car - by servicing it regularly every 5000 Kms, by using only genuine parts, by having it clealed daily, by replacing battery (the first one lasted almost 4 yrs !!), by using premium petrol only etc.
Not a single part of the car has either needed repair or replacement (except when I had minor accidents !!). Everything has worked smoothly till date. Even the tyres and tubes are in good shape after running over 75000 kms. Credit for this, of course, goes to the tyre manufacturer. But some credit to Honda also.. I have always got superb mileage in this car (15 kms on an average to the litre) much to the envy of my friends and acquaintances. The boot space is large and I have never felt the lack of space esp. when I took the car for outstation drives.
In one of my other reviews I have written about the poor quality of service provided by dealers. Perhaps they feel that they are doing a favour to the customers by giving them service !! Other than this, I have no serious reservations about this car. I would recommend a Honda city to any person who is looking to replace his existing two box car and upgrade. Amongst all cars that are there in the market, I feel that the Honda is the best "value" car. I have test driven the new city and found it really good. Some of my friends tell me that the new City does not give the same level of performance as the old one. But kya karen ? The old City is not available any more - except as a second hand.
My next car is either going to be the Honda Civic or the Toyota Corolla. Watch this space for a review on the next car.
