Update on 29-Aug-09, 3:00 PM:

Eureka Forbes (particularly Kumaresh) acted swiftly on my request and sent a different technician today. This technician (Mr, Ashok) clearly knew what he was doing and fixed the leaking problem (I believe it was a knob that was not firmly fitted).

I am currently observing the performance of the water purifier. So far, so good.

Update as of 28-Aug-09:

I think other reviewers have covered the product quality related parameter's quite well. I'll first explain the service experience and then summarize the product details. After evaluating products from Kent, ZeroB and other local companies, I decided to go for Eureka Forbes as I had a good experience with the UV purifier purchase a few years ago. After a lot of research on whether I really needed an RO purifier, I was convinced that with the kind of hard water supply in my apartment, I needed to go for RO. Anna and Kumaresh, the Eureka Forbes marketing folks took time to explain my questions. I finally ordered the Aquaguard Reviva (RO).In summary, it has been a dissapointing experience with Eureka Forbes' so far. Here's why:

  1. After I placed the order for Reviva, the technician, Mr Saravanan, who was supposed to install the product was very indisciplined about keeping time. He said that he will come at 4:00 PM on 25-Aug-09. I called up at 9:00 AM on 25-Aug-09 to confirm and he positively says he would come at 4:00 PM. We leave all priorities aside and wait for him. Mr Saravanan never turns up at 4:00 PM!! And, niether does he bother to give a call and let us know that he's not turning up!

  2. I told the marketing folks that I am not interested in the product, if Mr Saravanan is the technician. Kumaresh was patient enough to listen out and apologized for the lapse. Mr Saravanan too called up to make up for the lapse and he insisted that he would compelete the job soon. On his insistence, I agreed. Mr Saravanan came on 28-Aug-09 and installed the product. I was unhappy with the installation for the following reasons:

i. The technician is really untidy. I opted for having the product wall-mounted. The technician does not take care to realize it's a brand new apartment . His lack of sensitivity ensured that he dirtied the wall and left me quite shocked :(.

ii. The unit started leaking at the bottom right corner (I guess it's from the outlet) immediately after he installed. I asked him why it was leaking. He opened up the purifier, did a few things with the unit and installed it back. I did not see the leaking for the next 10 minutes. However, just after the technician left, it started leaking again and it has not stopped since.

I will now have to call up the technician and customer service and need to follow-up :( -- and this is just what you don't want to do, on the purchase of a brand new product.

As promised, here are a few things to note about the Reviva:

  1. The Reviva comes with a 6-stage purification process and does a good job with the 'core function' - the purification. It however wastes a lot of water in the process. If it gives you 8 litres of pure water, it wastes approximately 15 litres in the process! I recommend storing the outlet water for household purposes such as cleaning the floor.

  2. The Reviva is an automatic unit. When the storage tank is full (8 litres), the system shuts down automatically. When you consume a little water, it starts automatically and fills in the Storage tank with pure water unti it's again at 8 litres. The unit is automated to ensure that overflowing is taken care of. For this automation to work, you need continuous running water and power.

  3. You need to flush the dirty water every day for 1 minute. There is a knob to do this.

  4. The Annual Maintenance Cost is high (about Rs 3500/-). But, you do not have to go for AMC and I recommend that you don't go for AMC. Call up Eureka Forbes whenever you need replacement of filters and it works out cheaper/better.

  5. The Reviva is a RO purifier. If the water supply in your locality is fairly good (low hardness), you can instead opt for UV-based purifiers; Opt for Reverse Osmosis purifiers if the water supply in your area is not good (high hardness OR impurities).

I feel it's a decent product. But, the customer service and the leaking issue still needs to be fixed by Eureka Forbes for me to sustain confidence in the company and the product. I hope to get a resolution soon and the value for the Rs 9990/- that I've paid.
