Thanks to Delta, I am sitting here cooling my heels in my cousins apartment in Herndon, instead of flying back home to mumbai. My flight was at 6 35 in the evening to JFK. From there I was to take the direct flight to Mumbai. We had decided on this airline because we thought taking an american airlin in america makes sense. How I wish I had decided to take BA or Singapore airlines instead. I have taken all Delta flights in my one month stay here in America. And I have never even once been left with anything good to say about them. Their staff is indifferent, even discourteous.


I arrived as early as 3.30 for my 6.35 flight only to be told that my flight to jfk had been cancelled and they would accommodate me in another flight. the other flights could not accommodate us. So after running all over the terminal with my luggage and my seven year old kid for half an hour, I was back at their counter. The lady informs me that I will have to come back tomorrow to take the flight at 10;50 in the morning, go to atlanta, change flights there and take the 5;20 pm flight from there to jfk and thence to MUMBai! Now because I have a child with me and am travelling alone I have gone to all the trouble book a short flight. Not only is this flight cancelled due to inclement weather(the weather is perfectly cheerful and sunny), I am made to travel a ridiculous amount of time extra. And no, they will NOT put you up in a hotel. When we ask to speak to someone, she asks us to wait for an hour. I have never felt worse on a journey. If my arrival in America sucked because of Delta, tney managed to make my departure so much worse. My cousins husband had taken a day off and driven me all the way here. What could I say? Take another day off? Thankfully a cousin stays close to Dulles in Herndon. And I am typing this out here at his place.


If the flight was actually cancelled AND they are not paying for my stay, shouldnt they have at least called up in the morning asking me to come early and take a flight to JFK? But then that doesnt help. If your flight out of JFK is overbooked, you can treat your customers quite shabbily if you are delta. The Supervisor or Whoever spoke like the proverbial used car salesman. Completely insincere about everything and really couldnt care a fig - he was full of smug phrases like inclement weather even professing a tornado warning! The female at the counter acted like we were to blame for her unhappiness in general and was the most stonewalling person I have come across. In our arrival flight another of their "agents" snapped a " I have no seats together" to me as I requested that I be seated with my child. Everywhere I was requesting passengers to accomodate me. The Airhostesses wouldnt help either. If casual fibbing and shabby treatment is NOT your idea of service from airlines, please book your flights on a more reliable airline.


I will be arriving in Mumbai now on the 15 instead of the 14th and dragging my poor kid some more all over this country.
