i agree. i also face problems like hard 2nd gear, rattling, and many more. In my review about a year ago on this site itself i have counted all these. why did not you read it? Now worst of all........... they are recalling 60,000 cars due to deffective engine!!!!!!! I own one of them...... I spent 1...0L to get a deffective engine (biggest USP of Honda!).... yah... Honda charges atleast 1.5L over other competitive cars for its qulality and we opt it so that we may have peace of mind......feeling cheated.... especially when i am still paying the heavy EMI. or should i be happy that after making me fool, atleast they are trying to make up. I dont know how this problem will be handled by service people. they have to open the engine to change the deffective part... god knows if they will be able to re-assemble it again like the factory fit.....Read More

dear shabhi.... I am giving you some of my observations about city (i own it) and SX4 ( my cousin owns it and i have my hands on it quite often) and you decide yourself........... money spent on petrol is a quite big issue and it suppresses many good qualities of any car....... so only if you don...t drive much then certainly go for SX4........... SX4 costs (in running, only fuel price concerned) around rs. 5 perkm and city around rs. 3.7 so city owner will have to travel around 70000 km. only after that he will cover the cost difference (in on road prices, is around 1 lak) between these two cars and if we concern the expenses towards costlier regular services, other job works and spare parts of the city, then this distance will only increase. Now, if you cover this 70k km distance in 3 years then go for city otherwise for SX4. Also, the looks, interiors, and social appeal of city are better. I don’t know how much you are concerned about these facts but these facts also play part in the decisions of many. BUT, if you go for SX4 then there are many plus points which u will certainly enjoy. The bad fuel efficiency of SX4 is due to the heavier body and broad tyres which makes it more stable at high speeds. Ironically, the lower ps engine (on paper) of SX4 accelerates faster than city!!!! So better fuel efficiency of city comes only on the cost of acceleration and the stability at high speeds on highways. Also ground clearance of the SX4 is a big plus point and, believe me, you will enjoy this point much often in India. Low costs of spares and servicing, availability of service stations, good paint job are some other plus points. piller do bother initially but after some time its ok. So decide yourself considering your priorities…. Also, I have read somewhere that most of the maruti cars will be presented in CNG versions soon. So a factory fitted CNG SX4 will be a good option. You should go and confirm it with any maruti dealer.....Read More

Few people blindly trust honda brand and dont use their IQ to judge it (I wonder if they have any). I think if u are spending 10L on a car, then its resale value is the last point u bother. Comfort, quality, peace of mind and value for money are the primary concerns and in my personal opinion, city ...is not worth in all these aspect (except low fuel consumption). And if someone is saying that buy city because it has great resale value then i will advice him to buy an elephant to ride instead. its resale value (after its death) is more than 100%. Also, apart from fuel economy, honda city is quite like a white elephant to own. Anyway, i hope at the time of resale, atlast, honda city will make me smile.Read More

Dear Mr. rajj i completely agree with u. have purchased city ivtec vmt 9 months ago and done 14000 km. i also realize, considering the price of the car, much better options are available in market. few people blindly trust honda brand and dont use their IQ to judge it (I hope Mr. Honda will like t...o meet them). Hello friends.......... MY UPDATES: third free service done after 10,000 km. my problem of vibrations at 90 km/hr rectified. Engine is smooth and pleasure to drive. but feel of low power at sudden acceleration is still there. shine from teflon coating (cost 3.5 k for three services) lasted only for ...15 days! AC working nicely. Body (dashboard mainly) is quite prone to generate rattling noises when used in a little rough manner (indian roads, mostly, are always rough for yur car, u cant help in it). Maintenence cost is a big issue...... when i asked an innocent question (anyone will ask if has some IQ) from my service aviser that why the advanced synthetic engine oil (Rs. 2.1 K) in an advanced petrol engine lasts only for half the distance if compared with the cheap oils and old petrol engines? Instead of giving me a proper answer, he gave me a nasty look as if it is sin to think about your pocket in honda premises and for a honda owner, its a crime to ask such money concerned questions....... (let me clear here, otherwise, service people are quite cordial and helpful). Anyways, this free service costs me Rs. 3k. Now after each three months (or 5K km) there will be a PAID service!!!!!Read More

Thanx steve. after reading yur suggestion i traced my VIN no. it is MAKGM253J9N001668. So its mfg. period is oct 2009. i purchased this car on 15 oct 2009. So i think i have not been cheated. But is it possible that i got the car within 15 days from the date of its assembly in the factory (if J9 mea...ns 1st oct 2009)? Pl reply if have idea. thanx again for making me aware about this point. Also i already take in mind all the points u suggested to avoid the low ground clearance problem but still even with 2 person in car, i get hit at times. I know the setting of Bass level in the music system and i have set it at medium. U r right, i feel the rattling problem of fittings only with some heavy bass songs (i have mentionned it in review) but is it ok to have this problem (at medium setting) even for few songs? I have complained it to service. they told me that all the fittings will be removed only then the problem will be traced. i declined to make any disturbances with factory fittings as i afraid it will only worsen the problem. so i have now accepted it as it is. Regarding the power of the engine, i can not understand the ’pedal to metal’ term. Does it mean sudden pressure on the accelerator pedal? i will try it. Anyways, many thanks for your sugestions.Read More

My updates: got my car Teflon coated in Rs. 3.5K. ITS USELESS AT ALL. service adviser will tell you a thousand benefits of it but dont get fooled. I have tried it because i expected it to be helpful in preserving the bad quality paintwork. but the results are pathetic. Better buy a good wax from mar...ket and polish your vehicle weekly.Read More

Hi route66. U r right. most of the time we go after the brand image only. when i was planning to buy my next car, at that time i have shorted out the SX4 after my test drive sessions. I can say that the braking, effortless acceleration (keep in mind: SX4 is heavier than city still scores higher on t...hese two points!), stability at high speed, gearbox, ground clearance, luxury features, heavy strong body sheet, paint job, service stations across india (even small cities like Aligarh have 4!) and good pricing are some points where SX4 is quite ahead from my city. But i was hesitant in buying SX4 because i didn’t like its looks (both, from inside and outside), inside space and fuel efficiency (now i can say that even after its bad fuel efficiency, running cost of SX4 including fuel, spares and servicing, is quite lower than City’s). My father’s thinking that honda machine in house will make us proud and the sudden withdrawal of SX4 from production/sell in October 2009 when i was in decision making phase, were some reasons behind my wrong decision. Anyways........ now i have only one option. I should explore the plus points of my city and make myself happy..........Read More

hello puneet! After spending 10L, we should (rather say 'must') expect high level of satisfaction. Anyways, my updates: got second service done. People at Ace Honda (Noida) are quite willing to serve you. good follow up. but vibrations near 85 km/hr are only somewhat rectified, not completely. it wa...s due to faulty wheel balancing. I wonder what they do in PDI (pre delivery inspection) because this problem was from the first day! Well, Car is moving now more smoothly. full marks to engine. but no solution 4 problem in gearbox. It is not as smooth as the competition in this segment demands. I think u will find maruti swift's gears smoother than new city's. They say it is due to new design of gearbox for longer life! So at last I have to accept it..... one more thing! 3 lt engine oil costs more than 2k (they justified that it is a new 'synthetic oil' especially developed for this car, so is costlier, I wonder if other engine oils are not 'synthetic' but natural products! huh.....Anyways, u can never argue on this point with service adviser) and u have to change it after every 5000 km. if i am not wrong, most of the other petrol cars need this after 10,000 km only and also the cost is less than half! So, the plus point of city: savings on running cost due to low consuption of fuel is somewhat ruined by this fact (costly and more frequent service and spares). also, city is atleast 1 lac costlier than its nearest rival means city has to save 2000 lt of petrol to cover this extra cost by its good fuel efficiency. But i must say that if u dont bother your pocket and 'value 4 money' kind of thing and only want a smooth pleasent ride (on good roads only), then in this segment, u can go for new city.Read More

Dear Mr. YZ12. Don’t take my words on your heart. I am happy that you are enjoying your car very much. I have just shared my experiences honestly in search of solutions/suggestions. I have no enmity with Japanese. I know, we are City owners and we must praise our car as a clever buy. But in my revie...w, except point no. 7 and 12, all other points are but obvious and anyone can examine them. Nothing is there to lie about or for false claim! Ofcourse, I have upgraded from wagon R to City but that should go in the favor of City! Even a small beauty of this car should overwhelm me but alas! nothing has impressed me except the fuel economy and brand image. Also, I never think that City owners are fool (now I am one of them!) and I also request u not to use this forum for deciding this. Also, choice of a sedan doesn’t show that a person is fool or clever. If we believe your words then all other Indians who buy non Honda sedans are fool ! So pl treat my words as just my experiences shared with others. I never claimed that all other city owners are also facing same problems. Regards. Dr. Munendra Singh Read More
