Well closeguy, just saw your note. First of all Where exactly is Shubham? I would like to go there. I do not want to carry on arguing on this site, but u shud know, India has more English speaking people than most English speaking countries. Regarding all your other points, I have an Idea - why do...n't we sit and argue this over a couple of drinks sometime at a bar you recommend. I promise not to speak in English. I enjoyed reading your comment.Read More

To ksb123 - I hope you know that India consists of many types of people. Just because you are not sure, does not mean that these people are not Indians. For the record I am a Bengali with a western name, so what? Yes I know Hindi. By the way, just because one group of people who multiply like rabb...its, and hence are the largest linguistic group, demand that their language is the national language, does not necessarily make Hindi MY language. Would you accept Tamil as the national language if the largest linguistic group consisted of tamilians? I do not think so.( Check History. As for the parcel drama, It did happen. By the way, when I did go to malvan, I did not speak in some Firang language but in Hindi. TO closeguy, Boy! You are really a “closed” guy. Have you ever thought about the fact that if all restaurants were to follow your rules, ie. A Malvani restaurant is for Malvani people, then Chinese restaurants would have to close down since there are no Chinese people in Thane, similarly, all Pizza outlets would also have to close down, since there are no Italians living in Thane, and Mcdonald’s would be running at a loss if only Americans could go to eat there. You should open your eyes and observe that people go to restaurants to experience different types of cuisines. That means that I need NOT be a Punjabi if I want to eat Chicken Tandoori, or, that I need not be born a South Indian if I want to have a dosa. Have you ever eaten Chinese? If yes, did you first learn the Chinese language to be able to read the Chinese menu?? The days of APARTHEID are over my friend. One does not need to be of a particular caste, religion, region, language,or political affiliation, to go and eat out. All one needs to experience different types of cuisine are 1. An open mind, 2. An empty stomach, and 3. The money to pay. All I expect when I go to a restaurant is 1. Decent, interesting food, 2. A menu I can read, 3. Decent service, 4. Decent environmenRead More

Foodcritic replies :To all of you who have written in First of all, Thanks.I never thought my review would actually be read by so many people. My apologies if I did not write a very good review, do excuse me, since this was my first one. Some clarifications: 1. To nileshd, the answer to ...your question is in the last paragraph of my review. Your point about details is noted. 2. To sonu3in: Given a choice between taking a business delegation out to Malvan or taking my family out, I'd choose the latter. Is it Kids-Friendly, as in, does it have special arrangements for children - NO. Also please read the last para of my review which answers why I went back. By the way, I dont KEEP going back. To findkhushi, the intention of ANY review is to mention one's own experiences good or bad, OR BOTH, and hence inform others. I think I did just that. To snehat - thanks, point noted, appreciate your words of encouragement. To criminal, you can say that again! To zuludancing - I love Malvani cuisine too, in fact I like FOOD!! Though I do understand that the people PREPARING the food are Maharashtrian, I do not agree that only Maharashtrians go for the cuisine. As I said, Thane is expanding, and a lot of non-marathi speaking people also go out to eat. maybe these restaurants should apre a thought for them. Can you tell me how many non-veg options are there in Thane, where I can go with my family? (not the BAR & REST. variety frequented primarily by boozers) Also, I did not quite understand your point about MALYALI (sic) in Malaysia??? Are you taliking about malayalees, or about malaysians? No I would'nt ask for a MALYALI menu in Malaysia but for one in English. I also thought that restaurants catered to people who like to EAT FOOD and NOT to 'people like me' (???)Read More

The first time I went to Malvan was about 7 years back. My wife and I wanted to order, but the menu was in Marathi. Naturally we asked for a menu in English. This proved to be a big problem. After searching high and low, the waiter finally came back, grudgingly, with an English menu. We order...Read more

I have been going to Chinese restaurants for a very very long time. In Mumbai, sadly, there are very few authentic ones. The ones that are authentic are extremely expensive. The ones that are affordable don't serve good Chinese food. One exception is Beijing at Chembur. It is a small pl...Read more
