I have been going to Chinese restaurants for a very very long time. In Mumbai, sadly, there are very few authentic ones.
The ones that are authentic are extremely expensive. The ones that are affordable don't serve good Chinese food.
One exception is Beijing at Chembur.
It is a small place with some 9 or 10 tables. The decor is not too classy. Fully Airconditioned. Unlike most so called Chinese joints, this is one place where you will actually get Pork dishes. Being originally from Calcutta, I am used to eating at Chinese joints run by Chinese people, where Pork is a staple.
Elsewhere in Mumbai, Chinese joints (run by Shetty's, Punjabis but no Chinese,) mostly serve some red looking stuff which they call ''SCHEZWAN'', ( correct spelling is SZECHUAN). Non veg consists of chicken( hopefully), chicken and some more chicken. In some places you can also get Mutton?? !!
Well Beijing is one place where the food is tasty, not necessarily spicy, and quite authentic. Here you do not have to eat Paneer Manchurian if you do not want to. Try the chicken with Bamboo shoots, or the Pork fried rice to sample good Chinese fare. The prices are not too steep.
My wife and I who now stay in Thane, keep going all the way back to Chembur sometimes, just to eat some good Chinese at Beijing.
