Parsi food ? Ever since I saw a documentary on Parsis on the NGC and tried out the food in Gujjuland ( Amdavad), I have been waiting for a second chance!. Will definitely try it next time in Bombay (oops Mumbai). BTW, how did sali chicken get it`s name ? The sali is chicken or ...... rgds das...hoRead More

I think this title should be apt for Gurgaon. Every body tries to fleece you, be it the neighbourhood shopwala or the property dealer. BTW I think the property dealer density of Gurgaon may be the highest in the world. My stay in Gurgaon has marred by the Bijli of the BSP. Areas like Sector 56 are a... huge pain to get to especially at night. And yes, Gurgaon is not safe at all - at any time of the day. Although my commute to the office is hardly 6 km each side, I really dread Sikanderpur and IFFCO chowk crossings. And add to this the fiendly ( the spelling is correct) neighbourhood policewalla, you are apt to be stopped at any place for nothing. For gas, try Bharat Gas at Chakkarpur, the fellow delivers within a day. Rgds DashoRead More

Just got hit by one of those buggers ( delivery boys) when I was walking down the road yesterday. Rajasthan is one of the places in the country where you can have a look at the new styles of driving esp 2 wheelers. ( I have stayed in Udaipur and Beawar for nearly 9 years :)). But at least we dont ...drive on the footpaths ( excl. Delhi) OR cross with the pedestrians on the zebra crossing. Sorry, but the Koreans are way ahead in this !! Yes the villian was a North Korean - I did apply for permission to go the the border or DMZ ( de-militarized zone) but was turned down. You know the funny thing is whenever any Korean does something good they raise him to unprecedented levels ( Dr Hwang of stem cell research fame) and when someone does something bad they dont even talk about it ( they expressed ignorance about the whole Hwang issue !!). That was the best so far. I thought that Nokia had low end CDMA models and all the Gor eyo companies made the better CDMA`s. regds dasho

Gurgaon is no better than a gaon when it comes to the BSP ( Bijli, sadak, Pani) issues. You can see roads but driving on them is a different issue altogether. You never know when some idiot decides to cross in front of you. Power - imagine cuts of 8 - 10 hours a day - villages get more power. Paani ...- sewage lines are laid but who will connect them to the main sewer ? Not the developers - they will have to spend money from their pockets. The property dealers are a different breed altogether - the less said the better. They call it the millenium city, not this one, the previous one. Bangladeshis abound over here - I think we can have a Bangladeshi MLA quite soon. And Alok, I doubt if gandhigiri can win over here. Nice one - you have done it again. dashoRead More

You said it. I was so happy to see these guys faces after they learnt about Tata and Videocon takeovers. They have a HUGE superiority complex - and a HUGE ego. I enjoy sparring with them - time pass ho jata hai. Thanks for the RRC and hope your son is doing well. Dasho

I was in Changwon - a place down South for the first couple of months and there was nothing over there - just clean roads and organised traffic. Was shifted to Seoul and landed up in a Korean area. Wanted to shift to one of the foreigner addas but that was quite far off. There was a lot more to wr...ite on their systems and their palli - palli culture ( fast - fast) - maybe a sequel would be a good idea. One thing I really wish for was a video camera to capture one of the delivery boys driving a 2 wheeler with one hand and holding a tiffin box in the other at about 60 kmph on the pavement. Would have been great to show to any Korean in India complaining about traffic. Thanks for the RRC dashoRead More

They are extremely good copycats - and are extremely proud of the copied stuff they put out. They deliberately price the Korean goods higher saying that it is of a better quality (than the original ones also!!) - shopkeepers show the Made in Korea label and say very good and try to palm of the stuf...f. Imagine - one guy showed an original iPod and a iPad ( you guessed it - a copy) and tried to convince me the copied one was better than the original !! And to top that the copied one was more expensive than the original just because it was made in Korea !!. I never learnt bargaining in India but Korea has taught me that. Anyway - their pride in their country is appreciable. Thanks for dropping by DashoRead More

Hi !! I remember a time when both Kahani ... and Kyonki .... used to be telecast on Star. These 2 serials were very popular at that time and I had no idea that they would drag on so long. Are they trying to get the award for longest running serials ? Rgds Dasho

We Indians are the the ones who follow all the rules abroad but in India - Sab chalta hai. It is our birthright to break the rules and if anyone ticks us off, well he is a fool. Once I was waiting for my turn at the prepaid taxi counter at IGI. A young fellow darted in and tried to get to get a tax...i first. When I objected, he started shouting and said that he knew people ( another favourite habit of Indians - name dropping). By chance, I ran into him again - at the immigration at Dammam - he was very meek and obedient. Reason was ' dande ka zor '. We lack pride in ourselves as Indians - that is a sad part. Good one !!! Getting in the water is the most difficult thing - my father threw me in the pool ( with an inflatable tube - in case of any doubts of his intentions) when I was all of three years old and I howled like anything ( he tells me to this day). My daughter on the other hand jumped in on h...er very first time without fear !! ( too much faith in my swimming skills !!) Dasho Read More

Extremely useful for ' financial knowledge challenged ' ( politically correct terms !!!) like me who do not know much about the market. I always preferred Bank FD`s ( easy liquidity) and PO schemes where the money was safe - and returns were less. Met a MF marketing guy once and he used so many te...rms that I ended up more confused and decided not to put anything as the Sensex was high. Thanks for explaining the stuff in simple language - hope to invest this time ! DashoRead More

This incident was while travelling on Saudia. Another time, Gulf gave me 2 small samosas for lunch with assorted leaves - felt like mooing. (no hugs please, I am a bull!). Some countries are more difficult than the others - I suggest you add Korea and Vietnam to the list also ! The ideas of food ...( veg or non veg) are strange in these lands. Here chicken burger at fast food outlets can have beef as a filler also - one of the guys who was initially resistant to beef said - 'kya phrak padta hai - Indian cow to nahin hai'. MTR is a life saver for most of us - although I gorge on Korean food - been almost 6 months now. Just waiting to eat parathas, gajar ka halwa and have proper dahi (no yogurt for me, please) when I get back. dashoRead More

Great revu Doc ! I guess the debate on veg or non - veg food has been going on for a long time. Veggies travelling abroad have a huge problem as Daya has experienced. Me - turned omnivorous the day I asked for a veg meal in one of the airlines (it was Tuesday - I`ve left that as well - wheneve...r abroad ! )and the air hostess bought something that looked like stuffed 'baingan' to me. You can imagine my face when I reconfirmed ' Vegetarian ?' and she said ' Yes, with lamb keema inside '. Veg or Non veg food - eat whatever as long as you are comfortable eating it. Hope to see more of this - dashoRead More
