Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki is yet another typical Ekta Kapoor serial, and it seems Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi gave birth to it. The story of KGGK focuses on mainly Om and Parvati Aggarwal (played by Sakshi Tanwar) in the beginning of the show. Om is the eldest son of the Aggarwal family and Parvati the eldest bahu. The show basically focuses on the trial and tribulations of Parvati, and is no different than shows featuring characters such as Rimjhim, Disha, Tulsi, Kkusum, Vedika, etc.

The first half of the show before the generation leap depicts typical nonsense that supposedly occurs in joint families. It's nothing interesting or new, yet it continues to flow because of the versatile acting of many of the cast members. Sakshi definately is a versatile actress, and I think most of us watch the show only because of her.

I have to admit that I only started watching the show more and more when the Diwali scene took off this year. I don't remember watching much of the show prior to that episode, but I may have seen bits and pieces of it occasionally. The plot of KGGK is of no surprise until it reaches it's second half-the generation leap. I find the generation leap the best part of the show entirely, and it does get the ball rolling. Ekta Kapoor has a habit of introducing generation leaps in most of her shows, in order to "sustain the attention of the audience". It is true to some degree, and I think it's effect on KGGK is positive.

Plot Summary-Krishna's death, Parvati's prison sentence

Prior to the generation leap, Krishna's death is enacted by someone . He finds out who Om Aggarwal's killers are (Trishna Aggarwal and Rajeshwari Mehra), and is on the verge of telling Parvati, when he is shot by someone who doesn't want that raaz discovered. Any guesses?? After he is shot, Krishna falls over a cliff into some deep water, and begins floundering to try to stay above the surface. Meanwhile, Parvati is waving her hands in the air like an idiot, shouting.."KRISHNA!!!!" She eventually phones Kamal and they all come to the tragic scene. Then, like a chorus to a song, they join in on Parvati's shouting paagalpaan, and do nothing to save Krishna. He eventually drowns, vagehra, vagehra. Later, Parvati hears someone drop a gun onto the ground, and while out of her senses, picks up the gun!!! ( Don't mind Parvati, but now your fingerprints are all over the gun)...I think Jiji's "Don't mind" statements have gotten to me..

During the death ceremony in the home, Parvati is talking to Trishna (played by Mita Vashist) about Krishna's death, weeping that her son was brutally killed blah, blah, blah..while Trishna is staring at Parvati like a big time dummy, thinking to herself , "shut up Parvati-you're next!". She had no emotions at all, and this is what was suspicious about the entire situation. Trishna tells Parvati that she will help her in her quest to discover Om's and Krishna's killer(s), in order to bring them justice. Later, Trishna is shown hi-fiving Rajeshwari and basically saying that she killed Krishna.

Parvati begins trying to track down the killer of Om and Krishna, and eventually finds out that Trishna was behind the murders. Parvati slaps Trishna, Trishna starts acting like a lunatic, and they both challenge eachother. Then, a day later, Parvati is arrested for both Om's and Krishna's murder, and is on trial. The serial depicts India's supposed pathetic justice system, like most other serials. Most of Parvati's family members speak against her, and she is eventually convicted to life in prison.

Then, in a scene, Parvati is shown talking with Aruna Irani, who has been dragged into the serial to help Parvati. Irani discusses her own life history, referring to how she was hurt and ripped to pieces, as a result of her son's deeds. She convinces Parvati to fight for ther rights, and comes up with a plan to save Parvati-enacting her death. Yes, Parvati is shown slitting her throat and being cremated (not the way it is done in India) in one of the scenes, with all the family members around her. Parvati is dead, as so it seems.

Current Scenes

18 years later, Parvati's new life begins as Janki-the new form of Parvati who is back to take revenge on Trishna. The story continues on from here, and shows how Parvati a.k.a Janki is going to plant her deadly roots in Trishna's ground. Aruna Irani plays an important role, and is often doted as playing the role of Krishna in the Mahabharat, leading Arjun, who in this case is Parvati.

Comments about Sakshi and Mita:

Sakshi Tanwar, by far, acts the best in the show in a positive role. She is very versatile, as proven in her other popular show, Devi. She does justice to her role as Parvati, and is the closest to the another good character in serials, Rimjhim of Piya Ka Ghar played by Narayani Shastri. Both Parvati and Rimjhim are almost a copy of eachother, and are, in my opinion, the best serial protagonists in television.

Mita Vashist is the best villain in the show, and she is not only cunning, but hilarious! She says the most dumbest things and does it with real talent! Remember Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi?? I think she is one of the best , if not the best villains we have in the television industry.

Other comments

The episodes right now are, in my opinion, the best. They are very interesting, and I try not to miss a single episode. The plot is thickening, and the storyline is intensifying to a large degree. If you haven't seen the show at all from the beginning like me, watching it from here will give you the hint of what the serial is actually about. Om and Krishna's death, Parvati's conviction, and Janaki are enough to disclose the plot of the entire serial. I hope you enjoyed reading this review as much as I enjoyed writing it!~

Happy viewing everyone!
