Xylo D2 Maxx 9 Seater launched by Mahindra

India’s premier utility vehicle makers, Mahindra & Mahindra has launched a 9 seater the Xylo D2 MAXX, making it the first 9 seat option from the Mahindra stable. The release comes close on the heels of the XUV500 and the Scorpio special edition being launched. However, it seems like this car is being aimed at the taxi and travel segment. The new Xylo is priced at 7.12 lakhs and comes with side-facing seats in the rear.

A 2.5 litre mDI CRDe engine producing 95 PS with 220 Nm torque between the range of 1400 to 2600 rpm is what powers this new car. According to the ARAI test results, the D2 MAXX offers a fuel efficiency of 14.95 kmpl. The 9 seat option is roomier, with the obvious increase in seating space and also boasts best-in-its-class head room and leg room.

Ever since its inception, space has been the defining factor of the Mahindra Xylo. The company has perpetuated this strength with the updated version of the car. Commercial owners have shown a liking for the double capacity side-facing rear seats, which gives them the flexibility to carry additional passengers or extra luggage.

The front grille of the Xylo has been made up on the new release. This, in conjunction with the new bumper, air dams and wheel arches, gives the car a sportier look. The lines on the car have been given sleeker directions and on the whole this update seems like a less boxy version of its predecessor.

India, with its predominantly large sized families has always been a conducive market for cars in the MPV segment. The Toyota Innova has ruled the segment for a while now. This is primarily due to the Japanese car makers ability to create a car that delivers high performance, is generously spaced and looks good at the same time. Mahindra and most other companies have been left playing catch up with Toyota in the MPV segment since the Innova was released. Cars such as the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Chevrolet Enjoy have managed to diversify the segment but the Innova’s hegemony continues unchallenged. What the Xylo has going for it is the fact that is more competitively priced than the Innova.

Chief Marketing Officer of the Automotive Division at Mahindra, Vivek Nayer, says: “The Xylo D2 MAXX with the mDI CRDe engine is a variant of the Xylo, which delivers great mileage, low maintenance and maximum space, making it a very popular choice with the tour and travel segment. Today, we are delighted to offer our customers the 9 seats option with side-facing rear seats – a feature preferred by the tour and travel segment. Given that the Xylo has best-in-class space, the side facing seats will provide a great deal of flexibility for carrying people or luggage.”

With Diwali season around the corner, automobile manufacturers are latching on to the opportunity of making more sales by not only releasing new vehicles, but also launching touched up versions of existing ones. The real challenge for Mahindra will be to make a dent in Innova sales with this new release.
