Vivah-- An Embodiment Of Our Past Culture And Tradition

By: abhinav001 | Posted Dec 05, 2012 | General | 745 Views

Yesterday, I was watching Vivah movie starring Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao. You know, when I started watching the movie, and as the story unfolded, although I knew the scenes by heart, I felt why was I watching it again. I remembered when I first watched it on theatre on my birthday 10th Nov, the date of its release, and just glued to the movie. The character Poonam and Prem remains with you even after you left the theatre. And to witness the same feeling again, I watched it thrice, though this time with my family, and that was the last movie I watched with my family, as we rarely have family entertainers in Bollywood, only I think Rajshri lives to their tradition, and still makes family entertainers, otherwise rest of the movie world prefer same filthy comedies, with no sense, to be watched by the multiplex audience.

I just deviated from my thoughts. I was saying that both the character Prem and Poonam, both were sweet, shy and understandable to each other. But I thin both the character were just hypothetical in today's culture. Neither the boys of today, would prefer a burnt wife, and marry him when she is on the verge of dyeing, nor their is any girl like Poonam in today's world. But both boy and girl of today, want to marry to the person as depicted in Vivah. Even if today's boy run behind miniskirt girls, but they want a simple middle class girl, who can live under his command and the girls on the otherside, want a husband with lots of money, but independent, there is no intention of girls to marry in a joint family. That is my view, as I have seen with my friends, my colleagues. There is still good out in the world, but can you be the lucky one, that's the question, only God can answer.

Now, lets come to the family, the Harishchandra of Vivah movie, was a real sweet father. Sunil and his wife, were sweet too. But the sweetest part was that when in today's world, the brothers fought for the property and money, they were together. Both were similar to the Hum Aapke Hain Kaun Brothers. Actually, when you watch the movie, you find the movie too close to Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, two loving brothers, one loving bhabhi. And the treatment was similar too, nearly 2/3rd of both the movie runs on love story, and sweet devar-bhabhi talks, and the last half an hour gives you a shock and the film ends on a happy note. For critics, the movie would be too sweet to swollow, but for viewers, it is the most ideal situations, a person wants.

The film ran a silver jubilee in some of the single theatres, becoming a blockbuster, but earning way too low for a blockbuster. But that is todays demographics, if the movie had run this long in Mumbai or Delhi area, it would have been a guaranteed All Time Blockbuster, but since the movie ran in the easten region, where people like only masala entertainer and family entertainer, the film's collection was way off the mark.

So, you know, when I watched South Indian movies especially Telugu Industry, since I reside in Bangalore now, I feel they have have a better understanding between their movies. They have films of all genres, mass masala entertainer, romantic entertainers, comedy entertainers, even adult language entertainers, and also family entertainers.

Atleast todays producers of Bollywood should try to make a family entertainer, it is a low budget and less risky than over the top action movies.
