The smartphone industry is currently ruling the minds and hearts of people. With numerous new companies entering the competition, smartphone industry has witnessed a lot of action and a strong competition. New phones launched at a considerably low price have given some older phone companies a run for their money.

As we head into 2015, we summarise the current phone market in India with the right mix of performance and features. Here’s our list of best buys for the Indian consumers at the moment.

Best Smartphone for less than 5000

This segment remains as fascinating as ever for majority of the public. However, few phones launched in this segment in November failed to impress the audience. So if you are looking for a phone less than Rs. 5000 would be Karbonn Titanium S20. The hardware is similar to what Google and its hardware partners launched as part of Android One phones in September. With 1.3GHz MediaTek processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB internal storage, 4.5-inch screen, 480 x 854 pixel resolution, 5-megapixel rear camera and 0.3-megapixel front camera, this device would be an ideal choice priced at just Rs. 4999. Also, the device runs Android 4.4 aka KitKat.

Best Smartphones for less than 10000

Till yesterday, no one knew Xiaomi and today everyone wants to own a Xiaomi. December might probably be the last month for Xiaomi RedMi 1S to be sold officially in India, as the company is now focussing on Redmi Note. However, Redmi 1S is still available in the market and we recommend you to go for this device. Priced at Rs. 5999, this phone delivers more than what you expect. The device offers smooth performance powered by a quad-core processor running at 1.6GHz and 1GB RAM, screen resolution of 720p and 8-megapixel rear camera.

For Android lovers who just can't wait to get their hands on the Android Lollipop, Motorola’s Moto E is in line to get the update. With the Android Lollipop running on it and available at Rs. 6999, Moto E will most certainly not disappoint you.

Best Smartphone for less than 15000

Moto G(2nd Gen) is the best choice in this bracket. It is a notch above the Moto G(1st Gen) with a bigger screen, better camera and an Android Lollipop update. Keeping up with the standards of Moto phones, this one too delivers solid performance. What more can you ask for a phone that costs Rs.12999!

Best smartphones for less than Rs. 20000

This category has two strong contenders - Huawei Honor 6 and Lenovo Vibe X2. Overall, the Vibe X2 is a better package although both are pretty close in terms of what they offer at their prices.

The Vibe X2 has a metal body making it an attractive looking phone. It has a bright screen, a fairly decent camera and a great battery life. The performance is good and there is no noticeable lag or dropped frame rates during normal use. The phone lacks an app drawer and so if you are used to Android you will find it difficult to adjust. But it is a fairly minor issue considering the overall experience the phone offers. The Vibe X2 is available for Rs.19990.

If you don't like Vibe X2, then we suggest Huawei Honor 6 to you. This one is available for Rs.19999.

Best smartphones for less than Rs.25000

With OnePlus One's foray to India, it has also made it to our list of best smartphones under 25000. Given the outstanding specifications, this smartphone is a steal. This flagship killer boasts a 3GB RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801, 13-Megapixel Rear Camera and a 64-GB storage memory, all for Rs. 22000. To buy this phone, one needs to score an invite from OnePlus or Amazon, which may be a drawback for some.

Lenovo Vibe Z K910 aka the older Vibe Z is highly recommended for its large screen and fine camera. Now available for Rs. 23000(launch price: Rs 32000) on e-retail portals, it is worth every penny. Packed with some smooth performance, an impressive 13-megapixel camera and a remarkable FullHD screen, the phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800.

For a smaller screen size we’d suggest Nexus 4 with an Android Lollipop update and fairly good specs at Rs. 23000.

Best smartphone for less than Rs.30000

If your budget is set to Rs. 30000, directly go for one of the best smartphones in the market i.e. Google Nexus 5. Since it is powered by Google, it not only comes with an Android Lollipop availability but also the promise for all future software updates, whenever they are available. Available for Rs. 27000, it is fast and offers a clean and enjoyable user experience with solid core components. The only worry is battery life.

Go for LG G2 for a better battery life. This remains one of the well-rounded Android phones ever released last year. LG G2 is also a fantastic deal at a price of around Rs. 29000.

Best smartphone for less than Rs. 35000

The new Motorola Moto X aka Moto X(2nd gen) would be recommended in this price bracket. The new Moto X has premium looks and impeccable finish with a beautiful aluminium frame. The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage and 13-megapixel rear camera. The 5.2 inch screen uses AMOLED panel displaying life like colors. Just like other Moto phones, the device allows a user to perform various tasks on it using voice commands or gestures. The new Moto X is sold at a price of Rs.31999 on Flipkart.
