Abhinav Bindra to Retire

By: Ari_D | Posted Sep 22, 2014 | General | 420 Views | (Updated Sep 22, 2014 08:09 PM)

It came as a perplexing news when celebrated Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra took to twitter to announce retirement from professional shooting:

“Tomorrow will mark the end of my professional shooting life! I will however still shoot, compete as a hobby shooter training twice a week.”

Although his bio is “most appropriate”, Bindra will be competing tomorrow at the 10m air rifle event, Incheon Asian Games and still give his best to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games. Henceforth the ace shooter will pursue shooting as a hobby.

Looking back at his accomplishments:

2006, Abhinav becomes the first Indian to win the ISSF World Shooting Championships.

2008, after winning the 10m air rifle event in Beijing, he is the first Indian to win an individual gold medal at the Olympic Games. Also, the first and only Indian to have held both the World and Olympic titles at the same time.

2014, Commonwealth Games at Glasgow Bindra wins a Gold Medal.
