Weddings: Why do we attend weddings?

A wedding is a great time to reflect on your status in life. If you’re single and want to settle, it is a good experience to watch how others go about doing the business. Weddings are also a place where you can let your hair down, meet family, take snaps that you will remember for years, and gorge on sinful treats. It’s actually 4-5 days of non stop, sleep deprived fun.

Also, Hindu weddings also have some traditional ceremonies whereby you can actually get to learn about how natural, scientific and earthy our culture is.

The best part of a wedding is that you get to see entire generations of people assembled together. So, you get to picture and keep maybe 40-50 years of your family’s hierarchy. This is a remarkable historical fact, that all of us should be proud of.

Weddings are also places to show off your dressing skills, to project what kind of partner YOU would like, and it is also a place for you to sell yourself in the marriage market, showcase your skills of singing, dancing, your tastes in food etc.

Weddings bring out the warmth that families share. There is so much to catch up with. So many of the females look so good, dressed up, and there’s so much to learn about fashion styles, beauty tips, dressing styles, and of course, the current designs in vogue.

In a wedding you have to look your groomed best. I don’t mean showy, gaudy and unnecessarily attractive, but just your best in terms of taste, elegance, and beauty.

Weddings are essentially social events. You get to meet family you haven’t seen before. You get to meet people living far away from you, and you also get to meet extended family.

The spiritual significance of weddings is that you get to see how people who’ve succeeded at one live and carry out their duties as householders. You get exposed to the intimacy that is expected of a cohabitation, which might appear alien to a free wheeling and independent person. You watch and witness how couples fight, talk, keep time and pace with each other, and learn that you don’t necessarily have to be at the top in a relationship. You learn how to live and work with someone.

Most of us have witnessed failures in relationships. In a wedding, you learn that you have to give it more than your best shot and that two whole families are working together. Your working relationship is what keeps the families well oiled, hinged, and running at top speed. That’s what weddings are for!!
