Home Alone!

It’s been a dream to live alone in this Maximum City but it’s hard to actually turn this dream into reality. Sometimes I feel it’s not too safe to be living in a city like Mumbai, especially for single girls. But the statistics prove the contrary. I know a lot of my female bosses live alone, but I really wonder how.

The cost of living in Mumbai is exorbitant and unless you’re making somewhere near a lac of rupees a month, it’s not easy to get by, especially if you have expenses amounting to a few thousands.

There’s also the safety factor to consider. Is it safe to live alone? With the rising crime statistics and crime against women in particular, it is indeed difficult.

Every time you step out onto the roads of Bombay, you see that you are walking a fine line between what is permissible and what is not. You never know when destiny turns and sends you into an unfathomable abyss. It’s really hard to also maintain a certain status and standard of life.

All our lives we are taught the importance of money, but nowhere is it more acute than in a city like Mumbai. You just have to be money minded here or in one word, just perish!

Also, despite all the promises of a better future, it turns out that things remain just the same. No amount of progress, liberation or freedom does really make that much of a difference.

The attitude towards women is also a matter of national shame. There is a lot of prejudice and there are still mindsets that continue to be biased against women, which is a fact that is absolutely not understood.

For a successful stint home alone for women, it is absolutely essential that you have a social context and contacts that will support you and whom you can turn to in dire times. It’s really hard to excel in your field, be social, be respected and gain an identity in a mad place like Mumbai.

Life, in one word, can be described as tough in this ruthless, fast and cruel megapolis.
