After writing his Economics paper, a class 12 student allegedly checked his own paper using red ink and gave himself a 100/100 before submitting it.
"To avoid suspicion, the boy had not marked the total on the main page. But the group of seven teachers that was supposed to assess each question and put their signature should have spotted the anomaly," said GSHSEB secretary(examination) G D Patel.
Harshad got lucky when "The teachers just did the total and endorsed the boy's paper assessment by putting 100/100 as final total," Mr. Patel added.
His result was almost ready when the software detected an anomaly in his result. Apparently, he scored poorly in other subjects and full marks in economics.
He did this for geography as well, however, "alert teachers caught the irregularity in geography where he scored 34 marks," said Mr. Patel.
According to the board, this is the first time such an incident has been reported. A case will be filed against the boy and he will be summoned before the examination reforms committee. If found guilty, he is likely to be debarred from appearing in exams.
A show-cause notice has also been issued to the teachers tasked with checking economics paper.
