The guy is about to fall down from a cliff. A beautiful woman comes to rescue him. She stretches her hands…promises to never let him go…

And story of Ekta Kapoor’s NAGGIN starts.

Once you start to watch a soap, the characters start growing on you. There is always this curiosity of “what happens next”! While the story of NAAGIN is completely illogical, it still manages to retain its huge fanbase and charm new. While watching the entire series of season 5 during this weekend, I was wondering why NAAGIN charms you? You know the context is basically baseless or unreal. Still you tune on to the lilting background score. I identified the following reasons:

  1. Human imagination and interest in shape shifting supernatural creatures is not new. There are werewolves and vampires (mostly in Western Literature), foxes (prevalent in Eastern countries such as China, Japan and Korea) and our very own Ichhadhari NAAG and NAAGINS (snakes those can shift forms at their will). Serpents are strongly connected to Hindu Mythology. There is this Anant NAG /Basuki/ Sesh Naag with many heads – who acted as the rope during Samudra Manthan. Ekta’s NAAGIN successfully relates itself to mythology

  2. A tale of love, hatred and revenge never gets old. NAAGIN is ultimately a story of love, deception, revenge, suspense and a battle to gain power. Do we ever get bored to watch such tales?

  3. The iconic scene of NAAGIN is the lady love saving the man. Also, the lead women here time and again reminds the audience that they are more powerful than the man (ref: season 6 Adi Naagin and Adi Naag tussle). “WOMEN EMPOWERMENT” calling out loud dear. We women love to feel ourselves as empowered.

  4. Goodlooking actors in fashionable cloths. Ref: the saree blouses wore by the lead characters. Once I was watching a video on the great showman Raj Kapur and it said after the huge flop of “Mera Naam Joker” Raj Kapur found out the success masala – scantily clad goodlooking woman in a lead role. And it seems the eternal truth.

  5. Persistent twist in the plot. “Rishton ke bhi rup badalte hain………….” The soap queen knew it from her very early days guys….
