Whenever we recall our school days … The first thing that comes to our mind is the games we all used to play…

Now if we think about those games, we will term them as silly… But there was innocence in every game... the innocence of childhood that’s depicted in it.

Like any other school kid we used to pray that our teacher should fall sick… A few honest prayers were answered by the almighty and we were bestowed with a leisure hour. There was a substitute teacher who used to come to the class and do her work, correcting books and all… We used to make most of it by playing games on paper….

Games like Name, place, animal, thing, fruit, movie… making different columns and writing all these with a particular letter… say if we get the letter as ‘A’… fill the columns with Anil(name), America(place), Ant(Animal), Apple(fruit), Ashtray(thing), Anari(Movie)… , and other games on paper wereTip, Tap, Toe, Dot games….!

We used to have two recess breaks; the first one was for 15 minutes… where as the second was for 25 minutes. As the first recess break was a short one, we made it a point to finish our lunch dabba and play in the 2nd break…

Let me share few of the interesting games we used to play…

Land, water, sea, ocean….This was the name of the game… Typical isn’t it? For this game we made use of the stairs.... the first stair was named Land, 2nd as Water and so on… while we all waited on the ‘land’ one of our friends used to call ‘Sea’ and we were supposed to jump on it before she catches us..! LoL…

Palmistry game:We used to take any of our classmate’s hand, look at her palm with a lot of glee … with the help of a PEN write everything that’s her favorite….. like favorite chocolate, favorite color, favorite hero, favorite heroine, favorite movie, favorite snack, favorite teacher and the last question would be which is her favorite soap, at the end of which we used to tell her ‘Now you can wash your hand with it’ LoL…! :P It took only a few days for the class to realize the authenticity of this Palmistry..!

The other games were Hide and Seek (Chupa Chupi), Hanging on Swings, Out-Out (Pakadam Pakri), Phisalbanda…!

Popular Song:Apart from national anthem, national song, school song…. The other popular songs we used to sing while playing games were ‘Orange and a lemon are for a penny all the school girls are so many, the grass is green and the rose is red, remember me till I am dead!’ :P and ‘Ring a Ring o' Roses pocket full of roses….’

As we grew up these games were soon replaced by basket ball, badminton, table tennis and all… and now I have replaced playing with watching! LoL…

Can you share a few childhood games? Let’s walk down the memory lane….
